and thanks heaps for the info, we will get onto the carb kit asap and ill be on the net shortly to find a 1.6 bar cap( we will flush the radiators aswell and replace the hoses but the cap definitely is some of the problem :)

Welcome to the vintage 125 club.  I have been working on my two 83 model YZ125's for years.  Your going to have to tear the bike down and give it a birthday.  Its 34 years old!!  A carb kit should sort the leaks.  Probably gum, worn needle and seat, incorrect float level etc.. The rad caps get old and worn.  My 1.1 bar cap always let pressure out the overflow even when the bike was just warm.  I have just got a new 1.6 bar cap.. anyway, try a new good quality cap.

might have a spare cr250 foot peg from that year, will let you know, you can get them welded and re drilled.
Old CR are always nice.

we are also looking into some on the late ktm ones, that are a bit bigger under foot too :)

Progress update :)
so we decided rather then just try fix one thing and hope that works and etc, we decided to fully pull it apart and check everything over and make sure there isnt any cracks in the frame and etc, and that way we can de-grease and properly clean all the parts and check all the bolts and etc.
So we have gone from a complete bike to a basket case  ;D haha
so here are some photos of the parts haha.. and i nice warped radiator haha

good radiator man will unwarp that for you. this is the best way to go as you will be right on top of all the little issues. when you finish, you will be confident that its not going to collapse when you go riding...

Yeah thats what we are hoping, hopefully ill drop it off to someone this week if i get a chance.
and yeah thats what we thought and we will give it a light sand and light paint on the parts that have been already rubbed back to bare metal to stop any rust. We were going to powder coat it but it actually is in pretty good nic considering.

Yeah that's what we're thinking , plus we've heard that powder coating can then trap rust so we decided to just try and match the colours as best we can and give it a quick spray

the big issue with pc is that you need to thoroughly degrease the frame otherwise it just melts under the heat and runs out over yr paint >:( also you need to blank off all blind threads and cover any close fitting surfaces like shock mounts etc as the pc can put 0.5mm on or more and its very hard to sand back. also need to consider that the electrical ground points (engine mounts etc) need also to be  protected.

its a very durable hard  wearing surface but it can be a real pita to remove from somewhere it shouldn't be.

rust shouldn't be an issue as its fully sandblasted back to bare metal before coating. any rust shows up then I can guarantee that :o

Yeah, we decided against powder coating ( as dad PC his IT175 and it was just alot of work) plus the paint on the CR isnt all that bad, were just gonna give it a few coats of 2 pack and make sure theres no bare metal showing, and hope we can mostly match the colours

so ive changed my mind again on the paint decision, as i was going to just give it a quick sand and give it a few coats of 2 pack, and try and get the colour matched as close as possible, but then i was looking on google images and stuff and came across a 83 cr125 that had the frame painted blue and it looked sick. So because were doing this up to be able to ride VMX it doesnt have to be 100% correct.
So because im going to change the colour were going to get it sand blasted and powder coated and all that

haha yeah its soaking in degreaser as we speak hahaha and my dad knows what to do regarding the threads and all that as he powder coated his it175 a few years back.

It's your bike to do whatever you like but the original frame colours always look better in the long run ;),  If you decided to sell the bike down the track it will be way more desirable, Only my two bob, As I said it's your bike just some food for thought, The exception is if you are building a team replica bike & they had different coloured frames :)

Yeah I get that but I want it to be a little different plus it's very unlike we will sell it as we have 15 bikes haha we only buy and never sell haha.
..however found a small rust hole on the sub frame today so we will have to deal with that after we sandblast it

So does anyone have any recommendations regarding plastics and stickers.
ive been looking online for repo plastics ( i would rather some used in good condition original plastics but cant find any ) and just wondering what ones people reckon are the best ones ?
