Old school road bikes ?

G'day viewers, I was wondering as one does... How many of you collect old road bikes, as well as dirt bikes ? Does your interest stop in the dirt ? Jimson

Got a 69 Suzuki a100 2 stroke, 76 CD175 twin, 78 CB125, working on the A100 but the others I will never see on the road.

Hi , I have 1981 1100 Suzuki Katana I believe its a Castrol 6 hour survivor model however that went back then , has the wire spoke wheels, I put some after market engine bits in it and its dangerous to ride , other thing I got a 1978 XS650 special Yamaha if any one knows where there are a set of mint condition pipes I would be interested  cheers robin

No road bikes in my collection, my mate comes round on his R1 all the time and tries to talk me into one but too plastic for my tastes.
Id only own one if it were track only.
Ive had FJ1200s and 1100s,Vmax,RZ250,RGV250,NSR250,cb900,zxr900 but no more,dirt is way more fun and safer for me.
But Id like to own a Sunbeam outfit like my Dad had when he was younger just to restore and look at and take my Son round the block now and then.

Played with XS 650 all my life , but when I fired up on the triples (my childhood dream) , they all got pushed in the back of the shed.  Triples are so sexy , but also very ill behaved. They are a challenge and I am slowly getting on top it .Once the forks, steering damper and rear shocks are done , they behave very well .(it wasn't the frame after all)Good pipes ,a few little carby mods and she is done   Riding them is so much fun , but you have to plan your fuel stops . 22  Liters only go for about 160 km ..... 250, 350 ,400 and 500 triples are more plenty full in Australia and are just as much fun to ride . If you are looking for a 750 dont buy a basket case . Get a finished one . I learned the hard way . They are very rare here and any parts for sale are downgraded stuff of another collector . Canada and USA still have some good untouched barn finds.Or spend a bit more and get a good one through a credible importer (its cheaper in the long run). They are not  only good fun but also a good way to park funds before the coming financial meltdown. Being what they are , there will never be a rerun .There is no other sound like it .

i have one of these rare things,  have owned it for about 22 years . its a 1976 250 Rapita -  the montesa king scorpion 250 trail bike of the time was quite similar , the rapita has a 19 inch front wheel, narrow h'bars, higher gearing , different mudguards and exhaust . (sorry no pic of the actual bike in my ph'bucket thing) ,   also have a 1981 BMW R80G/S    " the original adv bike "   more an old school all roads bike , had it since 1992 .    and was recently given a very tidy 1985 Suzuki GS850G .

There is no other sound like it . that is so right...I used to work near Moliagul in central vic and its at the end of a loooong road. some bloke had a gt 750 waterbottle and outfit and everyday at 4.00pm otd he would come up that road at a good clip and we would all down tools for a cuppa and listen to that thing sing. had aftermarket pipes and was waaayy cool at the time.

I know what you mean re complex..i split a 350 kwaka for a mate moons ago 1980's as it had done the middle rod. what a saga...got it all happening and he was happy...then about 6 months later he decided to strip the top end "to have a look" after reading some magazine article about decoking and two days later one of the pre used gudgeon clips went on a quick trip inside the engine a phone call was all it would have taken....

I have a few old road bike in my collection, including a 1949 Matchless G80, a few 1978 SR500 Yamahas, a XS100 Yamaha (currently being fitted with a sidecar), 1982 FT500 Honda, 1975 YB100 Yamaha and the two pictured below, a 1962 Honda C72 (Dream) and a 1964 Honda S90.



The car is a 1965 Honda S600.

Its a hugh amount of fun to ride. You can ride like an absolute maniac and not actually break speed limits. it weighs f-all and and handles and steers like a push bike, you just have to think of turning and it turns. Mind you it doesn't stop really quick with the tiny little drums, but as long as you keep that in mind it ok. 

The little YB100 Yamaha is the same, it just accelerates a bit quicker than the S90.

mates brother used to have a cb 100 when we were kids and he used to steal it on weekends when his brother would go to melb...cant get into too much trouble on cb 100..till you take it to the quarries with your mates on trail bikes....and it rains
