Doesn't your mate have an XT250 you can borrow? The perfect vinduro machine!

Pretty sure he's flogged it, or it is broken or summink.

Having said that, I have endured the crank rebuilding process tonight with a 1983-89 YZ250 rod, which is nearly the same except for a 1mm larger diameter little end bearing OD. Same ID apparently.

Need to paint cases tomorrow and bake, assemble engine and fit, and see if the bloody thing runs thereafter. Might bead blast and paint the clutch cover as well.

You should be! I was out there today, and it was one of the most fun rides I've had in ages (even if I did have to stop occasionally to put up arrows).

The stuff in the pines is just so much fun. I don't want to give too much away, but twisting and turning between the trees is an absolute hoot! There's all kinds of stuff in the the three sections - sand, mud, rocks, deep puddles, those pine sections... I'm still grinning just thinking about it.  ;D There is plenty of stuff to keep riders on their toes, but nothing ridiculously hard.

Seriously, if you are still thinking about doing this event, then just get your bike and gear together and come over. There'll undoubtedly be a few of us in the pub tomorrow night too, so drop in a for a pre-ride drink.

See you there!

Agreed - it was a great loop! Those big hills at the start were so much fun in the dry compared to when they were wet and muddy.

A bit of everything from tight stuff to fast sections and nothing really hard. Great views from some locations and an interesting mix of terrain overall. Had a blast!

Tex was right about the grin factor heading into the pine sections, it was fun chasing the orange dots and squashing toadstools.

Got off to a bit of a late start thanks to locking my bl##dy keys in the car but the nice RACV man didn't take too long to arrive.

A big thumbs up and thanks to VeRI and associated crew for putting on another great event and look forward to doing it again next year!

Yep, 100% agreed. Was a great loop. Mind you turning my old bus through the pines made me think Tex was a madman there for a small while.

Even more pleased that the only thing that went wrong with the bike was a hoseclamp on the pipe/muffler join moved, and my clutch lever mount moved a little jamming the clutch on the barkbusters.

Not bad considering the cases were bare at lunchtime on Saturday.

Just needs a cable lube, rear brake adjust and maybe make up a new throttle cable.

Thanks to all of the organisers, the club, and the volunteers. Was a great ride. Bring on Bonnie Doon.

I was a madman for a looooong time, not just a "small while"...  :o

Hey kdx Geoff is that Serge falling down in one of the ruts I warned everyone about at riders' briefing? I'd like to see more footage please.

By the way Jules, you forgot to mention that you stayed behind to help me take down arrows until dark. Thanks, man!

Yes, johnmcc, it was a big effort but judging by the response we've had it was worth it.

Was well worth it Tex. I would have stayed if'n my bike wasn't running lean. Not ideal with a fresh everything. And I wasn't going to walk the course.

Fair enough mate. At 70-80 kms around, and reasonably challenging at that, even one lap was a decent achievement.

VERi is thrilled with the success of this event, with over 80 entrants. The day ran smoothly and many riders have commented on just how much they enjoyed the course.

We're already coming up with ideas for how to improve it for next year. Obviously a big event like this doesn't just happen by itself, so we'd like to try an thank as many of those as possible who made it happen:

Peter Drakeford, John Searby, Paul Kalika, Geoff Morris, John 'Tex' O'Brien, Andrea, Karen, Rachelle Wilkinson, Mick Pettifer, Kristen Cahill, Steve Juzva, Darren, Jules Ling, Liza Robinson, Beaufort Progress Association Inc, Colin Harper, the local CFA, Raglan Reserve Committee, Sally, Lorraine, Hancock Victoria Plantations (HVP), DELWP, VicRoads, The Golden Age Hotel, Peter Jenkins, Riley Fox, Tim Hanson, Chris Sonego, Shayne Dimke, Scott Schalders, Steve Woodford, Phil, Pyrenees Shire Council, and anyone else we've accidentally missed.
