Leaking bings
« on: March 16, 2017, 08:16:19 am »
Hi guys,
wanna do a few races this year after being a no show for about 3 years
but have a carby leakage problem on the top of the bowl near the gasket
on the AW400.
Have replaced the gasket before but never changed anything so should I try doubling the gasket
or buy a new bing which I don't wanna do $$.
Or should I try another bowl ?
Any help or info much appreciated thanks Andrew.

If they don't leak a little you must be out of fuel ;D

Double check the float level as some bikes have the carbie at an angle it does not help.

Make sure the spring holding the bowl on is tight, even give it a tweak to tighten it up. Also lap the bowl gasket face till flat. Lapping is a bit tricky with the vent pipe sticking out so you need to get something flat with a hole in it that you can put some wet & dry paper on also with a hole and then rotate the bowl face on that.
You will never stop fuel coming out of the tickler and the vent hoses though while riding.

Lapping the bowl sounds like good advice although the material is soft so  care is needed

   Leaking Bings-Andrew.

Sleepy has the right idea regarding the Bowl.

Make sure the Bowl vent tube is not  blocked.

If it still leaking the Carby may be flooding.

If so replace the float Needle and Needle Pin .

The best is to buy a Bing 54 repair kit.  They are not expensive.

You get the Needle and Pin, Cork Gasket , Main Jet screen , 0 ring for the Top, Needle Jet Clip.

Also the cable Rubber Boot. Also If the Float is white . Replace with Black Type.

Parts are not hard to find.  BING USA, VMX Service Holland, EnduroKlassiker Germany.

Or many Light aircraft use Bings.  As they are used on Rotax Engines .Try many of Aircraft Parts

Supply Shops. They also have Kits.
