HL Tripple clamps on HL's
« on: August 19, 2008, 10:33:44 pm »

For the HL Guru's

What triple clamps do the HL's have?  I am partcularly interested in the clamps that have the handle bars set off the top clamp by a fair way (more than normal anyways).  I've tried to attached a pic of one (fingers crossed)

cheers

The 78 parts book lists the lower as...
1W4-23345-L1-33
& the upper as...
1W4-23435-00-98

I think they were also available with some specials.

Thanks GMC
Do they show a diagram or pic of these parts?

All HLs came with 38mm forks with the swept back bar mount top clamp and hi rise bars.

Yep got that,
I guess I'm keen on finding out what the triples are in the pic I posted.  They aren't swept back and the bar mount is really quite high off the top clamp.

any ideas?

Hi Bruised
The clamps in your photo look like their from a later model & maybe with non original bar mounts.
The parts book doesn't have a very good picture...

On the subject of HL's, I read in the Colin Mackellar Yamaha bible that the HL's came with a YZ250 A clutch & a ignition from a MX 125.
I'm curious as to how true this is.
The parts book lists the.....
Clutch assembly 583-16301-00
Ignition coil assembly 583-82310-50
Flywheel magneto assembly 583-81300-50
Also
Carby assembly 1W3-14101-00
Cylinder head assembly 583-11110-01-R4

Can anyone with one of those part No programs tell me what models these part No's are from?

Magnificant stuff
The parts book looks like the standard laid back bar clamps that I have.  I'll see if I can track down the original owner of the bike and ask the question about the ones in the pic.
Great help - thank you

1W3 = YZ250D (for the carby).
1W4 = YZ400D (for the triple clamps).
583 = TT500C (hardly surprising! :) ).

The 'genuine' HLs I've seen have custom, piss-weak-looking upper triple clamp??

Thanks Nathan, seems the Yamaha bible has some lies then, at least as far as the 78 HL is concerned. I was wondering if they used an SR head but seems the whole motor is plain TT.
Do you know what size the 250D carby is?
The genuine HL's you have seen I expect were Profabs, not NV

Acutually those look similar to Fox Factory Forx triple clamps to me, but the top clamp does look a little different.
