Sherpa Wiring
« on: December 11, 2016, 03:43:42 pm »
I need some guidance with my M92 wiring.

My Sherpa doesn't run lights, and when I got it, it had spark.

Coming out of the mag cover, there are 3 wires (black, green and yellow)

The yellow and green wires are solded together and have been (in turn) soldered to a piece of blue wire which runs up to the terminal block.  This then connects to an (earthing?) wire on the coil.

The black wire is soldered to a piece of brown wire which runs up to the terminal block and connects to the coil.  It also has a piece of blue wire connected to it which loops up to a kill switch on the handle bars.

Does all this sound correct?  Ive had fresh black, yellow and green wires soldered onto the stator and would appreciate confirmation as to where they are supposed to go and what they are supposed to do.  Pics would be great (sorry mine are so crap!)

Cheers.

Hi Shortstuff,
The black wire is from the points to the coil.A good idea while you are there is to remove the condenser from the points system and mount it away from the engine heat under the tank.A bracket may be needed. The main failure of the electrics will be the condenser and being under the tank makes it easy to change. The wire from the condenser is connected to the coil with the black from the points
The green wire is the earth wire and should be connected to a clean ground near the coil(coil bolt). The bike will not spark without the green connected.
The yellow is the lighting coil.If you are not using lights just run it up under the tank and tape it off.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Moto, so the fact that my yellow and green wires are joined, does this cause a problem?  It's easy enough to do as you say, but I'm just trying to get my head around why someone has joined them!

Shortstuff,
By having the green and yellow joined you are effectively shorting the lighting supply voltage to ground/frame.Is the lighting coil darker in colour than the ignition coil. They might have burnt it out.
Connect the wires as I have suggested and see how you go.

Everything Moto said is correct and the best way to go. The yellow and green joined together would have "dead shorted " the lighting coil and it might be damaged, The magneto coil would have been finding ground through the lighting coil , I'm surprised it even started at all.
Anyways it is an easy fix for you to correct.

don't forget to get some heatshrink to finish it all off before you go soldering connectors etc
