I don't believe so I have two frames that don't and have no evidence of the usual rivets etc that would hold it.

err not quite right guys. Suzuki didnt start using VINs for a few years after that. all the TS series scored was a sticker on the headstock and NO compliance plate. You should find that around that year bikes were registered under a thing called First edition compliance and thats a different breed of dog to a compliance plate.

just last year i registered in QLD a 77 guzzi without a compliance plate. i think it was 1981 when all bikes had to have a fitted compliance plate.(this was when Third compliance was enacted.

to reg a pre compliance plate bike you can cite first edition compliance or show that it had been registered previously . depending on how experienced the supervisor is (dont ask the counter staff please) you will only need your certificate of inspection, insurance certificate and bill of sale.

Leith LWCPE is up to speed on all things PE so im sure he will be able to tell if they even had one and I doubt it from an early Suzi.

I have a lot of magazine tests from Two Wheels. ADB, T&T etc on the 77 and they all have rego plates on them (front and rear usually) and i don't recall any mention saying that you could not. Usually they soul say things like. 'Great bike but can not be registered which lets it down' or something similar.

VIN numbers first came in 81 but bit on everything. My 82 PE250 does not have one.

Loke Pokey says, it may have had a sticker on head stem or maybe it just had the frame number and although compliance plates came in 75, the bike still may have been 'complianced' and 'registerable' The actual plates on PE's only came in 78 or at very latest 79 and part way through 79 blinkers were fitted too.
Wanted - 1978 TS185 frame or frame&motor. Frame # TS1852-24007 up to TS1852-39022

By 1978 it was mandatory.
It wasn't compulsory for manufacture prior to I think August 77.

Good luck.

May 74 for cars.
August 77 for bikes.

Pretty certain.

Didn't I stuff that up. This morning I cleaned the "Compliance plate" looking thing and found it is the opposite!

It specifies the machine does not meet any Australian standards and is for competition only.

Must read things properly........................
