Yamaha serial numbers
« on: September 29, 2016, 02:09:04 pm »
Guys - does anyone know how to identify a Yamaha part by it's serial number - not part number.  I have an AIR shock for the YZ360B - Yamaha don't recognise it but are still chasing for me and it is not a listed part anywhere we can see - serial number is 110581?

thanks

Generally if the part is made by Yamaha it will have some kind of identifying/part number cast into it. If the part was outsourced then the number may not relate to anything Yamaha.
Me thinks....

There were aftermarket air-spring conversions for early Monos. The one I have has a red painted aluminium cover over a rubber bladder (I think - I haven't pulled it apart).
The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

For some reason I can no longer insert images into the forum - or use any of the icon shortcuts - but here are a couple of pictures for those interested enough to have a look.

cheers

Rossco the air springs were not Yamaha . there were 2 types a alloy cylinder with a air v/v as you have pictured and a bladder type as Nathan has said . one was a Fox and I forget the other make .

Iain - I did not think Fox were doing anything in 1974?  Way too early for them?
