IT175G onto YZ125G
« on: September 02, 2016, 05:31:46 pm »
Anyone done this swap?, looks like it'll fit on paper, left exhaust port & same base gasket plus same stroke. Just asking for a mate. Wrote this up earlier today but can't find it so must've only 'thought' id hit the post button. Thanks in advance.

I've done it, make sure you use the 81 IT carb as the power jet helps with more open YZ airbox, use the yz pipe if motocross is your preferred riding, or the IT pipe if its just for trail riding.

Hi thanks for confirming that & sounds like great combo. Will primarily be used for pre 81 vmx over here in nz. Thing is--if it comes to fruition --is to find a 175G top end as none on trademe or ebay or gumtree that i could find. Getting ahead of myself though. Thanks.

Thanks for the links to ebay as had no luck myself-- being computer geriatric.

Hey overthehill, did you do this mod?
Cyclegod, how good do the pipes interchange bracket and gasket wise.
I want to hit GMC up about using a modified version of his it175g cone pipe on my yz125g. Wondering how fit up would be to 125g cylinder as partzilla lists the two header gaskets as being different sizes by 1/4 inch. Also, the fitment of the It175 pipe to the 125g silencer. I am hoping GMC can mod the pipe so it is tuned more for MX.

Cheers,

I've never done the mod but providing they're both RH chain drive & exhaust port sits ok then should definitely be in with a chance.

Bloody hell, that confirms i'm loosing it. Just looking back now i realised i started 'this' post myself last year by asking about top end swap. Answering recently thought we were talking about complete motor swap.  No i never did do a top end swap. Trying to think why i asked lol but think a mate was looking at a 125G that's still on TradeMe a year later with what must be a pretty high reserve as it's never reach it. Anyway, be interesting swap if anyone does it. I've got a "Very Ratty" IT200 with a TT600 twin leader front end as sold the disc set up [long story] wrecker bike but got it going & goes like hell. Never realised they were so good.

I guess that's why you call yourself overthehill. Ha,....anyway, yep, I believe those IT200's and the 175's etc.. are really good bikes. Just had a post up on a Facebook yz125g forum I belong to, and the guy posted up a pic of Himself racing mx on his IT with one of GMC's cone pipes. Said they work great.
Geoff is interested in the concept of a 125G race pipe, so fingers crossed it works out..
