brake hose

so Ive replaced the dud front mastercyl on the dr 350  and bled it up but now I find  the hose is blocked. got good pedal and fluid sprays from the front union if I crack it but the pedal goes hard and nothing comes out the bleeder on the caliper and then nothing out of the banjo on the caliper end. do hoses swell and block??

cant flip the hose round & see if m/c pressure can clear it?,disconnect from caliper,& bleed into clear jar for observation?,old rubber hoses perish internally,usual not to get good "pedal'" pressure as they expand rather than push the pistons apart,so your hose obviously is blocked,look for a staino replacement (wreckers??),they rarely give trouble,

Yes they most certainly do if they are the old non PTFE lined type. I have had to replace many hoses on old bikes because of this.

If OEM are NLA or too expensive, contact your neareat Goodridge dealer/distributor and order a new hose giving them the length and fitting type/size on each end and they will get you a new one. You can also contact http://www.johnstamnas.com/brake-lines direct as i think they will also deal direct retail too. These hoses are ADR approved/legal aswell.

picked up a 20 buck dodgy hose and voila..front brakes again! woohoo. time to see if it will go...

my GS850 front right caliber is locking on turns out it a buggered hose not letting the fluid back to master cylinder has collapsed internally

Different brake fluids react with different  rubbers and seems your hose is stuffed. Used hoses are risky as the same could happen. Why not get new ones made ? Plenty of places around and they are not expensive. Just did the fronts for my Triumph and used HEL Performance. Two CF fronts with SS fittings new bolts and washers inc postage about $90 to my door.

Japs use DOT 4 and some Harleys use DOT 5. You can get into trouble if you put DOT 4 into a system ment for DOT 5.

ive done the m/c and the hose for 70 all up and its a goer so pretty happy. its not my bike and it will be sold soon so my margin depends on the lack of "get it going money" I spend. I will be letting the new owner know he has second hand brakes
