HPI ignitions [Horse power ignitions in the UK]
« on: July 23, 2016, 02:25:23 pm »
Hi All,
I'm looking at a new ignition from HPI in the UK for my 81 RM250.   They are cheaper than PVL [around 315.00 Aus plus postage] and look impressive they have a choice of 2 power curves one of which I hope will give me a bit more low down power.

Has anyone had any experience with these ?  They don't have a dealer in Australia but are popular in Europe.

Thanks

Hi, I have one fitted to a Weslake BSA Metisse. It has been bullet proof over the last eight years, and starts on first or second kick even after several weeks parked up.
I also have a couple of bikes fitted with Electrex ignitions and they have been very good.

Pretty sure HPI is in Belgium. Electrex is in UK.  I suspect some of that stuff comes out of Asia though despite claiming made in EU. I have not found any issues with Electrex stuff so far though.

Electrex importer in Australia is http://motorcycle-parts.com.au/index.php?a=products and thats where i get the stuff

If you compare part numbers of HPI & Electrexworld ignitions you'll notice most are the same.
I have 2 bikes with Electrexworld set ups in them & haven't had any problems at all so I'd say you should be pretty happy with an HPI set up

Mixed reviews from here and Europe and here in bikes and superkarts. From great to never pushed a bike so much. Careful with the curve you get given. A late model CR 250 is a good alternative.

Bought many HPI's direct from EU (Belgium or Sweden), not a problem with any & about half the price of a a PVL.

I have bought two Electrex World ignitions (stator and CDI/coil) from HPI in Belgium for Husky 510's with the inverted flywheel SEM's. 1984 and 1987 models.

First was excellent but the second stator was a dud. No spark. Sent it back and waiting the outcome. HPI said they will send it to the UK to fix or replace.....I hope ????
