Hiya from Bathurst
« on: April 23, 2016, 03:24:29 pm »
Hiya, thanks for the add. Out near Bathurst with the whole Sunny Corner Sate Forest just out our back gate. Just about to turn 45, had dirtbikes on and off over the years. Last one was a 2010 YZ250.
I've had a crap load of bikes over the years and these are the only two photos I can find. I had 3 XR's at one stage, A 350, a 500 and a 600. All long gone. Had a mid '90s KTM400 in there as well, bastard thing had the kickstarter on the left side!

Around 1992 or 3 I think. That poor IT250 was thrashed every weekend and never got any love. My first pair of nylons. I still have the helmet and the Yamaha padded jersey.

The bike I had after the IT. CR250, can't remember what year it was. I lashed out on a new helmet, Dainese armour and a pair of Alpinestars!

In the process of buying an '85 YZ250. Motor seems good, rest is a little rough but planning to ride it for a bit and then start doing it up.

Ta. I'll check out the Heaven VMX page and wander on up and check it out when you are in Bathurst. Not sure if I'll be up to riding. I haven't been on a motocross track in about 3 years and haven't raced since the early-mid '90s. Need to get some private practice in first  :P

Yep that's the one. I saw it there as well.

Are you in the Bathurst area?

Bit of video from when I got it home. The gear shifter toe is broken so changing gears was a hit and miss affair and the airfilter is disgusting so just a quick blat up and down the driveway.

She'll come up a treat mate..
I put a stainless brake line on mine & it's improved it no end..
I really like the power of my 85 , it's great in the forest ..last of the external flywheel models I believe so its got some good low down torque.
I'm at orange mate ...nice drive way mate ;)

A new braided brake line was my though as well. The 31 year old original line must be pretty rooted and spongy by now.

I'm halfway between Lithgow and Bathurst on 87 acres and the Sunny Corner Pine Forest right out my back gate  :) If your ever out this way drop in, there is some good riding out here.

Spent most of last night in the shed.

Some new bits.

It begins!

Things are getting serious now!

And done and ridden. Changed all the fluids, greased that which needed greasing, new bars, grips and levers, new shift lever, new air filter, did my best to sort out the custom snowflake bolt set (no two the same), fixed the fuel leak and cleaned the carby.
Took it for a quick blast out in the forest and it is a bit of a weapon! Even jumped it! With the carby clean and new airfilter it is a lot better to ride. The power still comes on strong but the spread seems better.

Will sort out the suspension next and order a new stainless braided front brake line to start sorting out the almost non- existent front brakes. New back tyre and sort out the seat and it is pretty much ready to be ridden for a while.

Nice mate.
Good reliable motor these things.
Still plenty of parts around also , even fmf pipes are available.
The only issues I'm aware of ...is the main down tube below steering stem is prone to rust , airbox cover are hard to find unless repo job & the rear shocks a bit hit & miss ...although mine seems ok so far.
