WR300 ?
« on: March 27, 2016, 08:47:00 pm »

 Check out this  pair of bikes;

 One in foreground  appears to have  p/valve engine .
 The bike behind  does not  .
 Both  have 300 on the side covers.

 Was there a 300 option  kit  available for the WR250 ?  or only for some factory race  specials.

Regards ,
               Steve

Interesting. Judging by the bib theses are bikes used at 1987 ISDE in Poland. They would have been used in the open class and are specials. Possibly not factory but some other team. Drew Smith from US was running a 270 Honda in that event so over boring to move riders into the open class for a full team entry was not uncommon I suspect. I will check to see if I can find any info from that event.

Let's ask Noel as he was there! Refer link from a 2010 thread on this forum. Awesome!

Noel, I guess your comment about almost riding is related to Ghost riders taking over from injured riders? This was rife apparently by some countries and went unpunished ..... Unless the ghost ended up injured and in hospital himself! Poor Americans did it ( everyone else was doing it!) and came unstuck! Real identity of the rider was revealed  :o

Mystery solved. It's a factory special run by Sven Erik Jonsson of Sweden. Seems to be a 270 actually. Build for the open class. Judging by the race number it's the same bike as in Steves first post.

Thanks to Michel Dufyard for the photo from Cafe Husky  :)
