Vintage Suzuki Scooter U70 1966
« on: March 14, 2016, 05:16:15 pm »
Gday all,

I wasn't really in need of another project but at the Maleny swapmeet on the weekend I couldn't resist buying a 1966 Suzuki U70 scooter.

Does anyone know about these bikes, finding parts or have one laying around?? (Doc this will test your knowledge)

The bike is nearly complete with the exception of the leg guards and in need of a front fender and lower chain guard.

As you can see from the pic there was a mountain of dirt and leaves inside the frame and all wiring harness chewed away,,,mice at a guess as to why I could not get any spark, it does have good compression.

Appreciate any assistance

Thanks
Tim

At the time I was only 3 so I can't rightly remember how popular they were sorry Tim ;D Have seen a few kicking around over the years but mostly in much the same condition as yours.

A mate had one as a paddock bike. looked about that condition in 72. One of my first experiences with a scooter and it was hard to get my head around the no clutch lever thing. From the depths of my often foggy head i think the engines used were the same as the A series bikes that were more popular. The A series had a clutch though. They did share the same disc valve engine and would rev quite nicely. automatic and a rotary valve was too much for my head back then so i went back to playing with Victas and bantams.

As for parts there will be a few around but perhaps drop a wanted add on gumtree or scour eBay in Europe or Thailand.

Well looky what I found..

I'd reckon it's easily worth about $450 but you can have it ;D it's from a slightly later model but I don't think much changed.

Tiaro wreckers are listing a U70 in stock.
Give them a ring?

The parts your want, leg shield and front mudguard, are the hardest part to find for any of the Japanese step thrus. I have a 1962 Honda C102 (pushrod, electric start 50cc) and a Yamaha V90, and have been looking for the same bit for both of them. SE Asia is the best source for replica parts, but it can be hit and miss with the quality.
Why do things the easy way, when with a bit of effort you can really make it difficult for yourself!!
