New to forum and new build xt 550
« on: January 12, 2016, 12:20:31 pm »
Hello everyone, new to this forum but not to motorcycles. Recently I've been looking for a late 70's mx'er to do a full restoration and make a living room piece and possibly race a few times. I happened to come across a 83 xt550. Not my first choice but the thought process was to get a fixer upper to flip and fund a vintage bike. I was planning on turning the XT into a scrambler or a Evo four stroke. Gas tank is my biggest issue right now and searching online this forum seems to be the place to find help. I see evo550 has done two XT's into mx'er wondering if someone can shed some light on a tank that will fit without tons of modifications.

Thanks

My uncle has just fitted a 76 yz250 tank to his with some minor panel work underneath.  I reckon it looks better than the usual 125 tank people use.

Paulos, thought a '76 yz tank may fit think a 77 or 78 maybe a good choice as well. Plans were to try and make it overall look like a bike that would have rolled off the production line in 1976.
