1980 suzuki pe250 fuel tank
« on: January 06, 2016, 09:55:29 am »

I have just recently bought a 250 PE Suzuki to have a ride in Vinduro events, and found that the fuel tank is splitting after putting fuel in .
Would any one have a good replacement that they would be willing to sell, or can anyone confirm if the DC Plastic's tank  for the RM will fit?
Thanks in advance for any advice or info.
                                                           Geoff.

The tank is made by clarks from memory and is a 125  which will
fall short seat by 40mm
IF you intend on using this tank you will need to mske up new alloy
L brackets.
Good news is that l am in the middle of fabricating alloy replacements
stay tuned

I know a guy in USA who got a Clarke RM250/400 tank 79-80, 8.37 Liter capacity. He has it on his PE400 and it fits well. I will get a photo for you.

Hi ,... Thanks Old Fart, and LWC82PE for all the info, and the photo of the Clarke RM tank. If you can let me know what's entailed in fabricating the front mounting brackets that would be great.

A threaded tube that spans the frame going through the round hole in the head stock reinforcement was used to mount a tank on an RM l bought.
If you love it, lube it.

On the photo i posted you can see he made longer brackets underneath. I can post a zoomed in photo of that area later as i have reduced the total size of that photo already.

.. Thanks again for the advice and if all it entails is making a couple of longer brackets, then I will order a Clark's tank, but who are the best decal suppliers  that don't fall off !

The PE frames are essentially the same as the PE so the tank will fit, its just the RM seats are a different shape/a bit longer at the front and the front mounting point is a bit different on the frame. Plenty of guys have run the 79/80 RM tanks on PE's before. Even ex Suzuki works rider Drew Smith runs this tank and he is also using the DC plastics RM safety seat conversion on his PE250.

Have a look at My PE400 its got a TS185 steel fuel tank looks the part I reckon and as previously mentioned a threaded bar goes through the hole in the frame at the front and has rubber blocks which slide into the fittings on the tank.

Hi, and thanks guy's for all the info and photo's. I think Ollie has just made up my mind and that's the way I will go, so if any one has a steel TS tank of the same shape that they don't need please let me know.

I have a "B" tank on my '80 PE250, and from memory I had to shorten the seat, but the problem with the PE250B tanks is that they are very thin and dent easily, and are as rare as.
