Thanks for the reply- perhaps it is a D [or later] Model CDI  ignition that I want.
Any advice is appreciated.
Complete motors [including ignition electrical] are also welcome.
Thanks
James

I did not know the CDI was trouble.
I am good with points, and know how to measure and set the timing.
I was just feeling a bit lazy, and the flywheel has some pitting-so I thought CDI conversion .........

cdi is great when new but a 30yo cdi box is gunna have dried out caps in it just waiting to short out between the plates,a quick search on ebay gets a new cdi box for 249 plus post from germany and youll need the matching stator/rotor and H/T coil where 31 aussie gets you new points/condensor and a trouble free system. if you wanted to give it a supper birthday replace the H/T coil as well and get your rotor soda blasted if its not badly pitted or replace it with a good used rust free rotor

Is this a road/trail or a race bike? There a infinite number of ignitions you could bolt on instead of a old DT ignition.

I bought this little fellow recently which is a C model and was surprised to find that it runs points when my 400 C model has CDI. Not exactly sure what I am going to do with it yet but I would like to try and get it running to see what the motor is like.  Compression seems good but currently it has no spark so I too was wondering what options are available as far as new ignitions are concerned.
85' Husky TE510, 83' XR250R, 76' DT400C, 81' XL500S, 85' XL250R, 80' XT250, 82' XT200.
Hmmm, What should I buy next?
In case you were wondering it was an 85' CR250R. Then a 76' DT250 and a 01' XR250 and it didn't stop there

You would probably find if you gave to pionts a clean with a bit of emery tape through the hole in the flywheel it would bring the spark back to life. Don't be fooled by the hype into believing that a CDI will make it perform better, a lot of the early CDI's had very strange advance curve.
