Maico Hybrids

I've seen Maicos with TT500 motors, but what are the strangest Maico Hybrids you have seen?

The British guys seem to do a few using '81 Maico frames with Husky 510 , Rotax fourstrokes or Honda XL motors. Here is a neat looking one with a Husky 510 motor & Husky fuel tank . The two front downtubes have been replaced with a single beam to accommodate the twin exhaust header pipes .

Here is another with what appears to be a CR480 or CR500 Honda motor fitted . Seems like sacrilege to me , but I suppose it is one way of getting your Honda to handle  ;D . These pictures were taken from the MXTRAX.UK vintage forum .

I realise I've posted this somewhere else but it fits right in with the theme
Frank Viradi from WA owns this 441 cc BSA B44 powered '82 Maico. I guess it's his vision, and it does fit in rather nicely but putting a 60s engine in an 80s bike sure seems odd to me.

Husky500evo,

It's a way to get your Honda to handle and a way to get your Maico to start.  ;D

Firko,

Have you ridden one of these Maico 4-Stroke Hybrids?  If so, I'm wondering how it affects the handling vs stock?

I passed on two 78/79 Maicos with TT500 engines and I'm wondering If I shouild have scooped one up?

Someone mentioned to me that they thought they had seen a Maico with a CZ motor installed.  Have you ever heard of such a beast?

That first photo you posted Huskyevo seems like a waste of a good Husky to me.
Cheers,

Another Maico hybrid I'd previously posted. It's Peter Rowlands Yamaico which is an early Maico square barrel frame fitted with a Yamaha MX250 engine. It's beautifully built and goes super well. Red, the only Maico engine swap job I've ridden is John Peters Honda XL 420 powered early Maico. It was a fast bike with big Johnny on board but I found it a tad frightening. The bike had a habit of torque twisting Maico swingarms.

Here's an unusual one....A '78 Maico Magnum witha a 250 Hodaka Thunderdog engine. The owner obviously had a taste system meltdown going by the pipe and modern KTM fenders.

Klub Kevlar International Policy Advisor and Entertainment Director (Adult Division), Mike Jolley from Auckland, NZ built his Honda XL250 powered '70 Maico back in the early 90s. It's been through a few fashion changes over the years but is still has the occasional race outing.

When I look at the bike in the first picture that Firko posted , with the BSA motor , I have one question : Why ?
The only answer I can think of is : Because he could .
And Big K , with regards to the Maico / Husky 510 hybrid , it is argueably the best evo frame with the best evo 4 stroke motor . You would think that that would be a pretty good combination & would even be legal by our evo class rules . Some would say that the '78/9 Maico Magnum frame handles better than the '81 Maico. The Husky 510 in original form is a pretty good package , but just doesn't have the sharp turning ability of the Maico & isn't as neutral feeling when in the air off jumps  (in my opinion) .
