Had the radio on yesterday and happened to hear a caller talking about where he buys supplies for his business. He repairs and restores old pinball and poker machines and said that if he buys glass locally it costs about $130 a sheet for the size and type he uses, but if he buys from the US it is $20 each. He gets 10 at a time and pays around $180 to $200 for postage, this works out at less than a third of the cost of sourcing it locally.
The part of what he said that interested me most was when he stated that he also sends any chrome plating needed to the US as well and including postage this is also far cheaper and very little difference in waiting time. I doubt I would risk losing any of my motorcycle parts by doing this but it's understandable that some might. He said if he had to buy from local suppliers he would have to close down.
I am not suggesting that we all go out and do this I am just relating what was said.
