Ebay item not as described.
« on: August 24, 2015, 09:52:07 pm »
Hi fellow VMXers

I purchased a 1983 copy of Trail and Track.  It has the IT490 and YZ125K in it.  Seller said it was in perfect nick.  It finally arrived and when i opened it, two pages either side of the center poster were missing including all but one page of the YZ125 test.  Unbelievable!! I paid $33 for the mag as its so rare and i really wanted that test to add to my collection.  I contacted the seller "Pre85 Parts" and he just laughed in my face and said he had a photocopy of the whole magazine.  I didn't want to get into a barny about copyright and i told him i buy thousands of dollars worth of parts on Ebay yearly and never have a problem and also i wouldn't create a commotion over $33.  Christ, i bought the RM80N and YZ125K Oz model on Ebay.
Anyway i have put in a return request due to item not being as described.  I will let you know how it shapes up as the seller is quite a smug fugger.

Anyone else have similar stories to tell?

Cheers,
Alex

Its March 1983.
Emails through the Ebay resolution centre have been flying backwards and forwards.  Its not the lousy $33, its the principle.  He did post up pix of the missing pages and there is a great poster of the 125K in colour.  But those pages were missing when sent.  Just the last page of the K test is still in there.  If i was going to cut pages out of a classic VMX mag and ruin it, would i not cut out the entire test?  Anyway, i think he has agreed for me to send it back for some sort of refund but he seems to believe it was me.  Very weird.
In the resolution centre, he posted up pix of the missing pages... here is the poster.  Wish i could scan it in properly but fork knows where it went....

Cheers,
Alex

Alex - It is just the centre spread picture that is missing. The rest of the test is on the backsides of the poster. Will check tonight but pretty sure I have a extra copy of that mag somewhere that you can have.

Similar story you say??? Ha, a while back I bought myself a TIG welder and was unable to find not one person either able to or prepared to teach me how to use it. So onto the web and on ebay is offered a DVD "how to TIG weld"(new). Excellent I think and I buy it. After waiting weeks and weeks it finally arrives.(had to come all the way from QLD to Vic).I open up the package and here is a used ,scratched item covered in thumb prints. I'm straight back to the seller and there is no way that she would accept the fact that she was responsible. I offered to send the old one back in exchange for a NEW one. No way she says that the old one is as you described "I personally copied it myself" and it was perfect when I sent it. Must have been damaged by Aus Post. Never pursued it any further only due to the fact that it was cheap and I don't need the hassles over a few bucks. Yep they're out there alright.

Paco, yep name and shame would be the way to go but it may cause a few issues for Graeme M down the line. Live and learn I guess. Still haven't used the TIG and as I'm culling the bike collection( 3 project to do/finish then getting out of the bikes entirely) I have a brand new machine to sell.600 bucks gets it and I'll be selling it at a loss. Anyone interested it's in Bendigo.

Thanks Mposs, that would be absolutely brilliant.  The seller agreed to a refund, but has now gone to Ebay and is fighting it as he has strong "evidence" that all the pics were in the mag, as he took pictures of them.  He may of took pictures of the pages, but that centre YZ125K poster (the 4 missing pages) were not in the package when i opened it.

It's a game the scammers play. They know perfectly well that they've posted off dodgy crap, they just play games until the buyer gives up.

I've been caught four times (three sellers - inc one that changed his username and managed to get me twice). The three sellers had a few things in common:
1. Sell lots of stuff, usually mixed bag, low value stuff that's clearly not just cleaning out the shed;
2. Lots of bad feedback, although a lot if it is hidden as negative comments in "positive feedback". Always check the comments, not just the feedback percentage!
3. Any Negative feedback is met with denial/blame the buyer/blame AusPost. It's one thing to cop a dickhead buyer, but you know there's an issue when twenty people have complained, and the seller never once says "yep, sorry, sent the wrong thing" or "here's the tracking number" (etc), but ALWAYS says "was working perfectly when sent" or similar.

They're the three big warning signs. Also check for LOTS of positive feedback from the one buyer - it's clearly another account designed specifically to boost their positive:negative ratio.

They count on people saying "it's only $33, I can't be bothered". If you can't get a refund, then still make them work for their ill-gotten gains.

The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

Sorry to hear of the unscrupulous sellers on eBay but I'd like to temporarily hijack your thread. I hope someone can post the cover of this issue as it's me riding the bike in the covershot. I was going to get the cover framed and then somehow managed to lose the mounted picture before I got around to framing it.

Dave Lucas from Annand and Thompson leant me the bike for a week so I could do the write up. We took it up to Mt Glorious then through to Dayboro, our usual weekend loop, and let about half a dozen more emminent riders than me try it out. At that point it was the only one in the country and hadn't been released. I know John Hansen and Bill Jackson rode it. Pretty sure Jeff Petler, John Zordon and Gordon also were around that weekend.

Great bike and fantastic power and comfort. It was like an armchair ride.

Thanks for dredging up some memories.

Works both ways. I sold a pretty rare VMX item to a guy in UK. He took a long time to respond to emails & longer to pay (clearly having second thoughts). Now that he has the item he wants to return it for a refund and is using the not as described option (it's exactly as described as per photo's), so now it will be a Paypal/eBay shit fight. I'm happy to refund the money for the item but they say I should refund in full including postage, but I don't think I should wear $60 postage because he wanted to have a look. These things are always geared toward favouring the buyer (can't leave a buyer bad feedback), so no doubt I'll cop it up the arse. Paypal have already withheld the payment. Whinging Poms is ringing true.

Sorry to hear that BigK.  I told the buyer he could keep the shipping that he charged me ($9 for a mag).  Its hard for buyers and  sellers when things go belly up.  Hope you get your one sorted.
Cheers,
Alex
