They are good torquey engines & much easier (better) to ride than it's MX brother (RM400). Shocks can be rebuilt or just buy some remote res Ohlins from a Husky.

Definitely worth 2K, if not a bit more.

It's got a speedo!  These things can go for upwards of $300 on their own!  And it looks like its got all the necessary bits.

Cracked rims, maybe.  But they're replacable.

I'd buy it (if I could get it past the finance department!

Hi Pete, I hope Jacquie can't hear you ;D ;D

That's a good way to look at it DR500. I doubt I will find another like this, but the dishwashers on sale at Aldi at the moment will come again :)

Sorry Rossco, the hunt is over ;) This is it, my permanent Vinduro Vintage Trail Rider 8)

I checked the beast over with the advise given, it seems sweet, thanks for the help :)
Just took the maggie cover off, I am thinking the engine is really good.
I can grab hold of the rotor no play in the mains, big end or little end :D
Massive compression and very slow to leak down.
Great under the gators, no scores.
Checked arm and frame around foot pegs, No cracks.
No flat spots, cracks or gouges in wheels.
Foot pegs and kicker not sagged at all.

For now, I look forward to a full service and ride it.
Happy :D :)

Oh yeah, Don knew what he had.
He did want more than two grand, but in the end was happy to take 2 for it :)
And like some have said, I think its worth it.
Cheers.

I got some works performance ones on a couple of mine work very well a lot better than the stock units there seems to be some large washer on the top of your shocks looks like it may have got a bit low at one stage with the tire mark on the muffler but I'd be happy to find one in that sort of nick.

I would have bought it for that although I have blown up my tl1000r and cracked it with the bikes all together lately good to see some nice bikes are still out there good score Mick.

Thanks Frosty, bummer about the TL engine. They have an outstanding reputation as a strong track engine. The rear suspension system is loathed as dangerous though and the engine gets the back out of shape easily and all the time. But fixable as are most things. Way too much bike for me, if I had one I would be already dead ::)

For the love of crumb cake Frosty, don't loose faith. I will be needing someone younger and worthy to pass this 400 onto when I am shot duck one day.

Great find Mick and an absolute bargain considering the overall condition and knowing the provenance of the bike.
Much better than any dishwasher could ever be!
The rear shocks were never any good even from new so splurge out some money on a new set for the old jigger. You will be glad you did. Change the fork oil too mate....no doubt its probably still got the original gunk in there.
Arrogance.....A way of life for the those that having nothing further to learn.
