The motoplat is not really a CDI as such but a transistorised ignition. The spark voltage and energy is nothing like that of a Japanese CDI of the same period.

Have you had the motoplat system tested to ensure that the coil is the problem? often a weak or failing stator (shorted turns) gives the same result. Possibly send the whole thing to 'Betta Bikes' SA or "Small Coil Rewinds' In Vic. Both can test the whole thing and tell you exactly what is wrong.

I would suggest that you consider replacing the whole ignition. I have used these and have found them to be excellent. They are excellent quality, very strong spark and require no modification to install (they bolt on).

Allow a few days for them to reply to emails as there are only seems to be a few English speaking emplyees.

Montesa models need the flywheel so the 1Kg or preferrably the 1.4Kg models are ideal. shown here

Thanks for your research no problems with power to the coil, but will keep Small Coil Rewimds in mind, I hear they offer good service, I will go with a new unit from moltoverde
G'day
That is a great site, with my limited electronic skills a straight replacement is my best option
Thanks again for your help
