P plater driving a prohibited v8, high speed, drugs and drug paraphernalia found in the wreckage, heading back from a drug buy in Melbourne maybe.... All too often a scene. I feel sorry also for the ambos firies etc. when they have to attend these scenes. Having done training in high speed collisions, I can tell you without any measurements at all that this vehicle was well and truly over the speed limit. Can Am, the vehicle left the road prior to the start of the rope barrier, and the vehicles point of impact with the trees was several feet off the ground due to the nature (hillside) of the spot. I believe ( but am happy to be corrected by anyone who may have better knowledge on this) that wire barriers are only designed to slow down a vehicle, not stop it. i have no doubt that wire barriers are terrible things to hit for us motorcyclists, but to play the devils advocate, at least they have some give , trees do not. Armco railing would have been just as ineffective in this particular case.
