Canberra King and Queens 2015
« on: January 14, 2015, 09:53:51 pm »
The ACTMCC's annual King & Queens long track is on this year on the weekend 28 Feb/1 March. This year it is a club day only so anyone wishing to ride will need to be a club member. I believe there will be prize money on offer as well.

There is usually a full set of classic classes - Pre 78 and Pre 85 250/500 (plus all the modern classes of course).

Supp regs out soon.

Hanging out for this one, already sent my entry in. Tho... no old bikes going so will only be riding the modern. I believe that the club will be completely resurfacing the track in early Feb with a rec day soon after to help settle things down. Should be a great weekend's racing I'm thinking.

Extensive track resurfacing is underway. I think there is likely to be a working bee and a practice day in the next week or two to bed things down, so the track should be pristine for the K&Q. Should be fun eh?

It's not bad is it? The club seems to be undergoing a rebirth of sorts.  New website, both tracks being resurfaced, prize money at the K&Q, etc.

Yes indeed, it's a great weekend of sideways fun isn't it? And how good does the uphill sweeper look since the track resurfacing?

I'm hoping to turn a few laps on Sunday - seems there is a practice day from 10 AM. Which will be useful as I haven't even sat on a dirtbike since early November...

Edit: I think that view is more Turn 1, but the whole shebang from 1 up to the back straight is much improved. Can't wait to give it a go.

Anyone coming over for a ride will really enjoy the changes to the track. Turn 1 is really really nice - more elevated and flatter, almost like a speedway turn. No more pushing the front on the way in, it's nice. The fast guys were drifting all the way through. I wasn't...

Forecast is good too, not too hot and maybe even cloudy. Bring it on!

To be honest I am not sure. I was the chump who managed to fall off in his first race and ended up pretty sore and sorry so didn't ride today. The vintage classes were very light on, I think maybe 8 or 9 entries total for pre 85 AND Pre 90 combined. From what I recall seeing of those races, Wayne Clark on a YZ490 was going pretty quick and I am guessing took out the class. In Pre 78 250 I think a local rider (Michael Sugarman?) was up front on a YZ250D or E.

My guess is no more than 20-25 classics all up.

Overall the rollup was OK, not great with maybe 80 or so riders in total. But a very fast field of riders I must say. Although I only managed the one race at any sort of pace (well, OK, 2 laps of that race anyway!), the Over 35s seemed to be a strong field. Pro 450s were brilliant and the 250s pretty good too.

Results should be on the ACTMCC website in the next several days I'd guess.

Disappointing weekend for me I must say, but first decent fall in dirt track in the several years I've been back at it, so I guess I can't complain too much...

Yes that Sugarman Bloke was real Quick, he won the Pre78 250, Pre78 open and the Pre90 Class on that YZ 250, I managed a 2nd place in the Pre78 open on the TT500 and was Happy to get into the Over 35s Final on the CR250RA {Against all Moderns}
