Suzuki, those other models..........
« on: December 20, 2014, 10:35:34 am »
In the late 70s and early 80s, Suzuki had DS, RS and RH models.
The RH250s were TS250s.
Not sure if they were made in any other capacity?

RS175 and RS250 were something between RM and PE?

So what were the DS models?
We had DS80s here for many years and I've seen photos of DS100 and DS250.
Did they make DS125 and 185s?
Assume nearly all of these weren't sold new in Oz?

Not much written on these models, anyone here own one?

The RS175 and 250 (mix of RM and PE) wouldn't have been a bad thing but they were aimed towards  a slightly serious fun bike market that didn't really exist. Almost like Suzuki had a huge excess of superceeded RM PE parts and this was a way to get rid of them..maybe :-\

As well as the TSX250 (RH250) they also released an RA125 (aka TSX125) nothing like the works RA.

DS were TS based.

I knew I'd get replies from you two guys. ;)
Did they make a full range of DS models? (80-250)
I'd be surprised if you didn't have a DS185 Shane?  ;D

naa too late a model for me neil and im not fussed on ERs.

i wouldnt mind an RS though. It was kind of a bitsa with PE RMand DS components. The steel tank and lighting came from the DS range. it was an american light off road sport bike, non compliance unlike the PE and DS. No market anywhere else but the USA. it didnt go as good as the PE or RM but better than the DS.

kind of odd to have that many models for off road on sale all at the same time.

Suzuki were predominantly focussed on the sales market so their bikes were mostly soft to catch more people, aimed at the broader dual purpose market. they would drop out a competition winner every so often to show they were capable such as the PE but unless it had big sales potential, they were generally soft. look at the dr range, always just not quite as good as the XR's in the bush but nicer on the road....
