Old Elsinore.... need advice.

Hi
(I am new at this so be gentle with me!)

Have come across an Elsinore. Frame is 1974 MT, but motor is supposed to be CR model.
It has the downswept exhaust but not sure if this is an identifying factor or not.

Only numbers that I could find on engine were E - 233  SX

Any assistance that could be provided would be greatly appreciated.

The CR boys will be able to tell you heaps more but it looks like you have a lot of work ahead.

basically the early ones are and im not 100%  on it

MT
engine number starts with..MT

oil injected motor
mild steel frame
steel rims
shaved head fins for up pipe
Intake manifold 2 bolt ovalish



CR
engine number starts with...CR
non oil injected motor
ally rims
chrome moly frame
Non shaved head fins
4 bolt square inlet manifold

it is not pre75 250 the barrel bolts to the c/case in pre75 they bolt through the head, also the clutch cover tells me its not a 250
it could be a 125 or mr175 but not a 250

 Hard to be sure,
 but looks like  CR125 top end  but may be 76/77 motor going on the size of finning,
would help a bit with photo of other side.
Part of the pipe is CR 125 with bodged up header pipe.

4 bolt square inlet manifold

Ya got all right pokey apart from the Inlet manifold, 125M had 2 bolt,.250M had 4 bolter,125R on has 4 or 6 bolt reed valve ;)

I'll say '77 CR125 engine in a MT 125 frame.

Coil mount looks points type, and the steel rim and the shocks are MT'ish
That said it has a CR forged ally brake lever.

Pipe is from a 76/77 CR125 with the forward mount shocks.  The head and barrel finning is 77 CR; different and slightly larger than the first models.

MR175 engines are different again and have studs and through bolts for the top end, not studs at each junction.

Your career isn;t over before it began Tony.  You can still ride it in pre 78 and you can "develop" the suspension to the 9 inch max rule.  Still a fun project and if you love Elsinores, you'll enjoy building and riding it :)

Umm the Pre78 rules only allows '75, '76 & '77 models so may rule out the MT125 frame as it is a Pre75 model. Secondly rule 16.15.11.2 requires the shocks to be mounted in there original position and mounts. Unless there is another secret interpretation that no one is aware of.

There was a suggestion put to the commission earlier this year to amend that but was rejected. Not trying to start another MOMS battle just don't want Crafty to set off on a project and waste time and effort.

Maybe look for a '77 CR125 frame?

Okay, sorry maybe I was wrong but (without starting another eligibility issue) I thought a modified pre 75 frame would be okay to use in pre 78 provided it was complaint with the 9 inch travel rule in that class?

MT125's were available  in '74, '75 and '76 so the combination crafty has is legal for Pre78.
