IMO The Husky 400 84 model is the best pre 85 Vinduro bike
IT 200 are dam good and easy to find.
XR 200 are so much fun to ride.

Really Nathan? Not heaps of KDX 250's around and certainly not lots of parts available. Forks and brakes aren't a patch on an IT200. Can rebore the Yam. I reckon IT200 by a mile. Any model is fine for vic enduros, even the disc brake ones.

There's no question that the IT has better brakes and suspension. But the KDX250 motor is a magnificent thing, while the stock IT200 motor is all midrange without managing to be all that impressive even there. Plus the IT's riding position is cramped.
More importantly, you can never get away from that vague IT steering.

And the KDX's brake and fork woes are easily fixed with a KX front end conversion.

The IT200 is a great bike. But I prefer the KDXs by a considerable margin.
The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

Nathan has got it ... the dx 250 is the motor except for the WR 400, now that's a motor. the husky has vestiges of brakes where as the kdx brakes head for the hills if a cloud forms in the sky...and they stay there!. you can disc brake em but the sad rear brake is a PIA. we all use the rear to balance and align and riding a wet dx 250 is an exercise in frustration ..and why I go down hills fast :o

that dx 250 is the best a/c motor known to man.

Vinduro? get a TS 125 and join the Harrow revolution!

Any bike that you can afford, have, or simply just love is all good. Parts availability is a big consideration.

Honda XR200RC are very cruisy and as you progress they will step up the pace with you, probably not the best bike in the era if your a gun rider but just a good all round fun bike, although after saying that  ive seen top riders do good things on them, yep even the old twin shock ;)

Foot? Make that FOTO. Also look at Bultaco shot to see friend Andrew pissing himself because I had just given up trying to kick the Bulty into life and I was looking for Drakey to push me. Geez I hate cold starts! J
