Hey from a newbie
« on: November 29, 2014, 09:52:37 am »
Hey All,

Been watching the forum for years, but have finally joined up. My first bike in about 1980 was a Honda C90 that we used on a dirt track back home in NZ! More recently I have had about 15bikes trying to decide what I really want.

Keen to get more into the vintage seen, as vintage best describes me and my style of riding, if you can call it a style?

In the garage right now is a nice 82 RM465, 88 and 92 CR500's and a 2000 KX500. These will come up for sale over the next few weeks. I would post some photos but they are too big and I am not very technological and cant figure out how to downsize the PDF?

Anyways, good to be on here,

ARM

Welcome.
Are you still in NZ? You have a nice line of bikes in your ownership history. Joining the forum and then immediately selling the RM and CR VMX machines is a bit odd if you don't mind me saying.  Most people tend to hoard on here  ;D. What do you want to ride/race in the vintage MX scene once you sell those bikes? Good luck.

Hey PEZBerg,

No longer in NZ, have been in Sydney now for about 16yrs.

The bikes that I have owned were predominantly for two reasons, 1. To figure out what I really like and 2. To make a bit of money so that I could afford to keep whatever it is that I really like!

Probably like many on here, I don't get out nearly as much as I would like, this year I have ridden twice in Australia and a whole bunch of times in South Africa as that's where we spend Christmas, with my wife's family and there is some very good riding over there, where laws are very flexible!

The overall all goal is to find a bike that suits me. A couple mates and I want to do the 12hour Transmoto on VMX's, but one of them just broke his collarbone, so we are waiting to see how he mends. No motocross for me, i enjoy the trails much more and my competitive edge kicks in on the track and my old bones don't like it.

I imported them to fix them up and sell them, so I thought this would be a great place to do that? The main other reasons that I have been on here before have been to find new places to ride, (being from NZ and only having a couple mates who do ride makes knowledge pretty limited) and to figure out how to fix my bikes. Both of these can be done as a non member, so hadn't bothered joining till now.

I emailed Graeme to make sure this wasn't an abuse or frowned upon and he assured me that it would be ok, so that's my story! Hope that's ok with everyone.

Hi ARM
If you don't want to race MX then trail riding and Vinduro is the go! A vintage enduro machine like a 84 Husky WR400 (twin shock) or any of the air cooled 430 or 250 Huskys 82 - 84 are a good bet. Then you have the XR, TT four strokes also if you like thumpers. Suzuki PE's , Yamaha IT's are other choices. Get the suspension set up for your weight and don't worry about modifying the bike with items from later models to make life easy in the body (brakes, forks, carby etc) as racing rules don't apply to you  ;D.
cheers

No idea as I am in Queensland and are a transplanted Kiwi.  Check out [url][http://www.verivinduro.com.au/url] as they do events in NSW and Vic that may suit you. Other son ths forum should be able to help also.
