With regret I announce the passing of Arthur Hobson, long time secretary of the old Merrylands District Motor Cycle Club.
Many people from the old ACU of NSW days will remember Arthur as one of the movers and shakers of motorcycle events in and around the Sydney Area especially and with a major interest of the old 'Sydney Associated Clubs' group that ran lots of '10 way restricted' short circuit (dirt track) meetings These meetings were very big in the '50s and early sixties. In a different point in time clubs a had much stronger social cohesion, with weekly meetings and 'one man one club' rules in place club secretaries had a very busy role organising everything from sports days to running club championships to organising Open Meetings. All done through 'snail mail' and believe it or not very few members had telephones connected. Another icon from a different era has passed.
Arthur will be sadly missed at the MDMCC old boys Christmas reunion this year.
