I was pissed GD!. I meant to write Willi but Adolph came out the other end! Bill....I just checked my copy of Rolling Thunder and Vic Eastwood, John Banks and Norman Barrow were the CCM works riders in 1975. There is a photo of Vic riding the same bike on the cover of the book. Vic is also wearing those ugly boots in the shot.

Fair play firko but i think you will find that photo with the boots was taken at the 1974 MX des nations where Vic rode a maico as well as Willi Bauer & Adolf weil .

I will try to upload the complete picture .

Maybe Bill but the Maico is a '75 model.

This is the same event 1974 MX des Nations (i think )
First corner shot Vic Eastwood # 34 on the Maico (also wearing the same boots)
#11 Willi Bauer on the Maico (with the boots that Wombat wants to name) behind Vic
Hans Maisch also on the Maico on the inside of Roger De Coster #2
Gerrit Wolsink # 12 to Vics right
John banks on the CCM far left side of picture
#7 Heiki Mikola on the Husky ?
Can someone name the other riders and the venue ?

Great photo Bill; I love that MX era. Pls advise the name/detail of the book, ta.

And while we're a tad off thread can I ask the origin of why the Poms race in green coloured gear?
I remember the old time open-wheel GP Drivers wore green helmets (British racing green?) but I'm wondering why.

I don't think green is used for Great Britain in any other representative sport.
Bill, Dave King, anyone?

Shit, You're right Bill. It's obviously Vic Eastwood on a Maico but why? (10 minutes later!) I just read the 1974 year in Rolling Thunder and the '74 CCM team was Jimmy Aird, John Banks and Norman Barrow. Vic Eastwood was riding a Maico for the British distributors BUT in November he resigned with CCM and rode in the Trans-AMA for them.

So Bill, you are spot on and my knowledge is nowthat little bit stronger! What made me think the photo was 1975 was the forks on Willi Bauers Maico which are internal springers which weren't available until the '75 model. Obviously the works team had them at some stage in'74. Note Eastwoods Maico has the external spring forks so he must have been riding a stocker. ....
Now, where's my anorak, I'm off to the raliway station for a bit of train spotting.

HA! Thread hijacking - is there a thread on this forum we haven't all taken right off the page and back again? It's all conversational and it's all good!
Thanks for the book info (and a well thumbed copy you have!), I'll be chasing that one.

Here's a thought: British racing green might look good on your helmets, ay Bill?
And on the School boy racing series, do you have any old photos from back then? I'd love to see them.
But be careful when posting photos of School boys... ;) :D
