Anyone have a fix for the spherical bearing at the front of the brake stay ?

Spherical bearing NLA from Yamaha.  22.5 OD is a bodgy size.
This is common I suspect.  Anyone fixed this on theirs ?

22, 26 and 1inch OD are common.

maybe a 7/8 OD may fit? i will have to check my catalogues

22.22mm = 7/8", so I'd be surprised if 22.5mm converted to any remotely common imperial size (don't have calculator handy, and CNBF looking for it...).

Tony, have you looked at rod-ends from National or Aurora? It won't be 100% as original, but it should be relatively easy to find a generic, male-right-hand-thread rod-end with the correct ID, and then weld a nut to the brake say. Also has the advantage of using a generic part, rather than a Yamaha-specific thing.
Its what I plan to do on my 250G, 250K, 125G, 125L....

That's a good idea Nathan - mine is bent anyway like most of them.  Any ideas for a link for National or Aurora ?
I've got a photo of an alloy one someone made, but I can't remember where I got it from.  It looks very trick and is similar to what you describe.  I will check Ebay USA.  There is a guy that makes trick bits for these things.
The guy at the bearing shop started swearing when he put the calipers on the old bearing and then started suggesting nylon or brass bushes.  7/8 is very marginally too small.
I'm not even sure why Yamaha but a spherical bearing in there in the first place.  How much twist would the brake stay get in it anyway .
I'm not sure wether to continue the search for a bearing or give up and do something different.  I'm leaning towards the latter at the moment.  I thouhgt someone might have a secret supplier of odd sized bearings.  I'll check out Lozza's bearing site too.  I'll let you know if I find anything.

Edit - nothin' 22.5 on that web site.  As you suspect Nathan there is a good looking rod end as you describe there.  Looks to be the way to go. Obviously the same will be available in Aus

Shit DJ I thought I checked all those bloody sites.  Do they add more stuff and update or what ??  Bloody hell it's embarrassing when that happens.   Cyclegod usually does that to me - even after I've spent an hour on Ebay looking .  I don't bother with bike bandit as they turned into "wallet Bandit".  Last I spoke with them they would only send Fedex.
At this stage I'd be looking for at least 2, but for the price I'd have to rethink 
I'm not building a super EOM NOS garage queen so the authenticity doesn't bother me too much.  Mind you I would spend that much money buggerising around trying to get the other thing to work. Plus I've already thrown the budget out the window, so what's another $50.

For a full-floating set-up, on a long travel bike, there's a fair bit. Remember that the brake end of the stay moves as much as the swing arm - and therefore has roughly the same angular movement too.

Yamaha ran rubber bushes on their short travel bikes (eg: DT250A), and they're fine. But with triple the travel, I doubt that a rubber bush would last.

I went to the Yamaha catalog and cut and pasted the part number so I didn't mistype it.......Nothin'
Ahhhh.. went to Zedder and put your number in and it comes up with mine as superceded (??)
Never mind, my time at speed and sport wasn't wasted - I got some other bits while I was there 
I'll check E74's site and see what it's got on it.

Edit - I always find that all balls website hard to drive to find exactly what I'm after.   S and S is always easy.
I will be needing a few of these for various bikes, so I might send the guys from partfixation an email.  I find him very helpful and it's surprising the amount of stuff he has.

I have a parts list for all YZ's from 50cc to 490 and from the beginning of time to 1998. Although not always correct it is a good starting point Tony. Sometimes with old stock you need the old part number. Anyway I'm glad to have been of some help. When are you going to have this beast up and running Tony, and when are you coming over for a ride in the snow

Not long now mate - just have to sort the gearbox problem then the motor is ready to go back together/  Got all the parts.  Have to respoke the new rims.  Got new exhaust on the way.  Basically I have all the parts I need (although I'm sure I will find some I have missed).

As far as riding in the snow goes......I'm alergic to snow it makes me Friggin' cold.

Seriously though we are still saving and planning to come over.  Have to wait for number 3 to be born and get that sorted first.  The Mrs has "her holiday" organised.  And I've got "my holiday" organised for the week before
