32 or 34mm mikuni vm carb for 1979 rm125
« on: July 07, 2008, 06:13:54 pm »
G'day

I have the choice of putting a standard but rejetted vm32 mikuni carb back on my restored 79 rm125 which has had a fair bit of work done to it, 2mm overbore, dg pipe, reeds, ported cylinder, uni filter, would it suit the stock 32mm or would the extra 2mm airflow from the 34 benefit the rest of the modifications thanks

They definately go better with a 34mm on them. Used to put a 34 on all my RM125's back in the day.

probaly a pe175 carb would be a good swap with close to spot jetting and easy to obtain at the wreckers

Wouldn't that be smaller? PE's are enduro, they're better for more bottom end style power

79 pe175n had 34mm carb and got their bottom end grunt from heavier flywheel, less porting, extra 50cc and different advance curve on the sparks

oh ok I understand.. Do you think I should just get one from the wreckers or buy a new one? After 30 years I reckon the slide and other moving parts would be a little worn or what do you reckon?

you can buy new from Vintage Suzuki. or a T/X PE carb from eBay and a shiny new slide, and new jets, all off eBay. Probably cost about the same.

hessam, where did you score your DG pipe for the '79 RM?

hessam69, you're right, the old carbs do wear out. It's not until you fit a brand new item that it becomes apparrent. The difference is like night and day  ;) if you can afford it buy new
