Fees to Aust Post
« on: September 05, 2014, 11:17:55 pm »

When we purchase goods from overseas we pay postage for the delivery to, lets say USPS for items posted in  the US.  Then the goods arrive in Australia and the delivery to our address becomes the responsablity of Aust Post.  How do USPS pay Aust Post for completing the delivery?  I can't imagine that an account is sent for every item that arrives.  In the case of deliveries from China sometimes the postage is cheaper from China to Australia than it would be from Parramatta to Liverpool.  So if they do pay Aust Post a fee then it stands to reason that China Post would pay less than USPS because they charge less for the postage from the start,  that doesn't seem fair.     Or do the destination countries do it for free?   Thats not possible when you think of all of the overseas mail that arrives each day not just parcels.
The more Bourbon I have the harder it is to get my head around it, so I will leave it up to someone else to figure it out, then they can tell me.

A friend used to work for NZ Post and told me a long time ago that each country has an agreement based on a budget for the postal traffic each way. This gets reviewed periodically. One pays the other depending on the balance. Might be quite different thse days but they certainly don't charge each other by the individual item!
