'85 TS250X Parts Compatibility With '84
« on: September 03, 2014, 10:05:16 pm »
Hi team,
I've come into a generally OK '84 TS 250x. (to be my vinduro steed) Pretty much all there, with plenty of goodness in the suspension and body work.
There is a problem in the engine - the crankcase has a water/oil/fuel mix which came up to the exhaust port. That left a high tide mark on the rod, and muck in the main and bigend bearings. The cylinder, piston and rings look fine. The rest of the engine/gearbox seems sound.

There is an '85 engine only on Gumtree. I know the exhaust/cylinder/piston/intake are not the same between 84/85 models, but I am interested in the crank/rod/bearings interchangeability.

Before I shell out for the '85 engine, beside base gasket up (top end) being different, are there fundamental differences in engine/gearbox parts?
(I've looked at the suz-bike-parts(?) fiche site and the rod *might* be different)
