TM 250 Pistons?
« on: August 28, 2014, 02:09:36 pm »
After nipping up my tm250 I have sourced another piston and rings, both from separate places.
The rings are almost twice as thick as the ones that were removed and are part #12140-15013-050.
Does anyone know what these rings may be for or did they change the thickness of them as the models progressed?
The piston pat #12110-30731-050 does not seem to be the same either.
I suspect I may have been sold a lemon (damn fleebay) but not knowing the correct part no's I should hgave done my homework.  ::)

Can anyone tell me the correct pat no for the thinner type rings and piston to suit, and what the parts i have might fit.
Cheers Darren

Knew I should have stuck with the yammies.

From the original parts book. 0.5 os piston is # 12110-30740. STD piston is # 12110-30731.
Rings 0.5 os # 12140-30710. The book covers models from J to M and all use the same parts.

Wossner list all sizes to suit TS250 from 73-81 which is the same as TM250.

Quick Google on the ring part # you have is TS250. From 1968.

The '69/'70 TS250/T500 and RH69/TM250 ran the extra wide rings. The rings you have are 12140-15700 and should have been in the old yellow/red suzuki boxes like these

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Suzuki-NOS-TM250-TS250-T500-1968-74-Piston-Ring-Set-12140-15700-S7-/250979912229?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a6f918a25&_uhb=1

before purchase have the seller measure the thickness to know for sure ;)

I'd say someone has put older rings in a newer box when they may have had the same prob. Parts books/fiche will say they interchange to later 'normal' thickness piston/rings but only if the both the piston and rings are changed as a set. A little something Zedder/parts software can't tell you ;)

Yes oldfart I jumped the gun and bought the .05 piston and rings before I tried cleaning the alloy out of the bore and rescuing the piston.
However the 0.05 piston and rings are not compatible and the rings are twice as thick as the ones I removed.
I am trying to establish what parts I actually have, and maybe get a new .25 kit as well.

Thanks everyone for the info.
