recondition honda cam followers
« on: August 05, 2014, 11:48:55 pm »
I've got an 84 XR200R (ie: RFVC) with the usual munted rocker arms :)
Any recommendation on where to take/send them for reconditioning?
It's been suggested elsewhere that, once I've had them refaced, I should look at hard chrome plating them .. any thoughts?
Should I have anything down to the cam too?

cheers,
Slap

Genuine H are OK
The originals only wore because of lack of oil
Use good oil with a new filter and replace it often

Thanks SON, I'd love genuine Honda but they are no longer available :(
Of the two part numbers, I can still get one of them (ie 14441-KK0-010) in a couple of places NOS but the other (14431-KK0-010) remains unlocatable :)

In the good ol' days I got the old worn out face on rocker arms and valve ends and built them back up with Stellite oxy filler rod. The worn area helps the stellite to hold. Its as hard as hell and does not come off or wear out even though it looks daggy. Probably the suppliers wouldn't know about it, unless you can find a senior cit still working.
cheers
dont follow me i'm probably off line!

I believe Tighe Cams in Brisbane can build them up as pancho suggested. They could also give the cam a lick to clean it up as well.

I used to Oxy spray them with rockwell 7 powder and grind them back years ago , I think thats a bit of a lost art these days. Look up heat treatment places near you and ask can they power spray.

I've sent Tighe an email - they've been suggested by a couple of people, as well as XRs only in the States.

thanks for all the suggestions - keep 'em coming :)

woohoo!!   Search looks like it's paid off ...
I have ordered one of the arms from an ebay vendor in the US, another from a QLD dealer and the last two from another QLD shop.
Now, let's see if they all arrive!

thanks all :)
