Why we love VMX
« on: July 15, 2014, 09:08:40 pm »
Let's be positive :)
Okay, the Forum can challenge our patience at times. But it is full of interesting and useful information, a way for us to keep in touch, and is populated by fans (sometimes a bit over exuberant :) of our great sport.
On Sunday a whole lot of us got stuck into some track maintenance at Nudgee. We put some sweat in but made sure we allowed plenty of time to chat around our bikes, with tall stories of our escapades. I am always impressed with the camaraderie in VMX. Everyone is generous with their time and willing to help others out. We always have a laugh and enjoy ourselves. We had a sausage sizzle because some members chose not to race but to cook for us. Another member came in so we had the official required for the practice. We all enjoyed a few hours of fun Laps. I can't wait till the next race day. Isn't that why we love VMX? Cheers. Ken

I love VMX because i really enjoy the machines and i love racing motorcycles, i have met so many really cool people who i now call friends through VMX  :)

I enjoy the racing ( even for a $2 plastic trophy ) I dont really care about the trophies i just want to win and have bragging rights at the bar afterwards , when i dont win i buy the beers  :).

But mostly when i go to a VMX meet its a trip back in time to a simpler place before the PC monster got hold of the world, unless you have experienced it its hard to explain .

We are very fortunate here in NZ that as far as VMX or motorcycling in general ,we still do pretty much what we want, when we want , where we want, and how we want .

It wont last forever but i am making the most of it while it does  ;D

I didn't get to go to the working bee last Sunday.  I had the chance to go to Conondale instead.  I ended up on the finishline waving the chequered flag etc.  Anyway it was great to get to go to a modern meeting again, I have a strong interest in both modern and Vintage.

I lot of the things that make Vintage MX/DT great are still the same in both.  Seeing friends that you only see at race meetings etc.

Anyway one observation I have to say is, it was great to see the 250 2 strokes up front and competitive against the 4 strokes.  Of course there is a lot of whingeing about the 2 strokes, from the 4 stroke side of course.  However I think the holeshots were 3 to 2 strokes and 3 to 4 strokes.  Anyway I have already asked several guys from Yamaha, Husqvarna and KTM when are their companies going to make a 400 2 stroke.

Nothing compared to the sound of a field of 500 2 strokes.  That is what I love about VMX.  "2 strokes rule"

The faster you mow the quicker you get to ride!
My fastest lap is the first one :)

They'd eaten the sausages while I was mowing,  I was too weak to go fast on the bike. To blame the Maico is an unkind cut.

Sitting here nursing a man with a busted up knee, isn't a positive thing and I was going to have a rant about injuries and the "older you get the harder you fall".Then something's in the sport/lifestyle put a hold on the negative real fast ~ Visa Versa..

Anyway I'm on facebook trawling around as I do  ;D  ,ending up at the Kumarina Tri Desert Series watching an interview. Some how I get talking privately with this bloke from Cairns, who is now working up in Port Hedland.

Part of the conversation
me:We were up doing Newman-Kumarina 2day ,28 years ago..also Indy used to be called the Whim Creek Desert Race..you'll have a hoot, those modern bikes fly !!

Aaron: Two guys I work with are locals mature aged as we are Terry Burnham and David Malcolm ... Terry helps do the track for indy  every year he is not racing this year cause he had 6 months of with a busted pelvis from a get off on one of the desert races up here last year and the old ball and chain put her foot down lol these boys up here spare no expense on their bikes ... nice nice machines

I yell up the corridor at Steven, whom is laid up in bed healing away...He knows Terry and David. Well i'll be !! there you go, says Steven !! :o   8)
Steven went to school with Terry from 1975,rode and did skids together.  :)
