Does anyone know if the gears are interchangeable between a '72 TS250 and a '72 TM250 ?

YES, just remember to use the TS mag cover

does the TS 250 76-77 bottom end fit into the 74 TM ?  or should i be selling that off as it has no use in TM interchanges ?

PPS i found a shit load of TS 185 dismatled motors and other pre 85 stuff at the guys house, will make a mention in another thread.

Freaky, Freaky, get with it mon, these are zooki's you're talking about '76 is very useful as in they interchange near everything with TM250 excepting they have a chrome bore which you wouldn't wish to use (the 74/75 TM250 I believe also had revised ratios but the clusters will swap as a set) , the TS250 from '77 is the reed valve motor and don't dare throw these away either as they can suppy the crank, imput shaft, primary drive/clutch basket (depending which model TM you have), clutch hub, steels, pressure plate and numerous other shims, thrust washers, circlips nuts, washers, screws and bearings..all are the same as TM equipment. Surprise surprise, a quick look just now on Alpha show most of the tranny gears share the -30100 or 30000 part number suffix which is the early TM/TS suffix also. As a guess I'd say most of them would swap also but the output shaft on the '77 TS is fine splined not coarse like the early TM/TS..it may work..will look into that, obviously the '77 top end and cases are of little use once you rape the studs out of them for spares but somebody may want them I have a pair of '77 TS250 cases and top end here for free for the taking also. I've just yanked mine apart for the crank (which needs rebuild natually) and the clutch setup, I'm slowly getting enough parts to build me a TM250..I just won a complete TM ignition system on ebay also so it's getting even closer now..after a few years of collecting I reckon in 2 months or less with all things permitting I should be able to roll something quite rideable out of the garage



you can also use whatever clutch/mag cover you like provided you swap things like the differing length selector shafts and pressure plates to suit. The TS magneto sits behind the same covers as a TM250 on the '76 model TS250

Yuma, yes, TS TM it all swaps right over except you need to swap to the appropriate cdi unit also 

I be still chasing either TS, RL or TM mag cover but preferably TM to suit and it'll be 100% complete and ready for rebuilding..*you know how it is..a p p p piece from here and a p p pp piece from there an' well it all just kinda comes together*

IHNI what works in the zooki, be buggered if i can figure out that parts system, at least the yammie had the prefix which seems easy for my brain to work with.

Any how based on that ill keep it, but i have 2 other TMs here im going to sell off and i think i have parts at nats too make another one. 

I just want a good work horse for the MX track, i cant seem to get any push out of it on the flat tracks, they seem to be a bit ringy and dont have the drive out the corners i was trying to figure out if you can de tune it for more drive less rpm but they seem to already have a small carby on them. i have matched the cases and cleaned the inlets out, but its still seems to just rev away but not drive down low with out going flat.  are there any useful mode there or is it better left as a nimble mxer ?

After a lot of actual research I can confirm

TS76 Counter shaft is old version for TM (72)because it only has 12 teeth
1st driven gear same as 74 (29 teeth) not 75 (27 teeth)
2nd drive gear same as 74 (15 teeth)not 75(16 teeth)
2nd driven gear same as 74 (27 teeth)not 75(25 teeth)
4th drive gear same as 74 (21 teeth)not 75 (20 teeth)
5th drive gear same as 74 (23 teeth)not 75 (22 teeth)
Drive shaft is slightly different
Thrust washers are different may be because of the slightly different drive shaft
remove the neutral switch and swap washers accordingly
Primary gear on the clutch is different ?
And remove the taco drive from the oil pump

So much closer to the 74 internal

So Doc what year frame and motor are you putting together

Doc,I have a complete '72 TM motor but if you need the mag cover,I'll swap you for a TS one as it appears I will need one if I am going to use the TS stator and flywheel.

Thanks Yuma, but the '72/'73 model TM250 mag cover is in fact a direct copy of the TS250 cover and you will need it. Same cover fits both. The later '74/'75 have the separate mag and sprocket cover and will fit if you swap the selector shaft and plug the clutch pushrod hole as this hole is no longer needed. I'll settle for any year/model TM or TS cover as I need 2, 1 for the TM and 1 for the RL

and CDI.........Why do I have to change the CDI ??/

Yuma, you have to use the TS cdi with the TS ignition and lighting if you use that and with the TM250 ignition it's the same, TS250 CDI won't work on TM as you need the matched set. All TM or all TS (excepting the coil, it works for both. Whatever you choose it's bolts straight on
