most of their vmx bikes are under a grand - freakin heck, how would that be if it were here?  we'd all have ten bikes in the shed (ok, the survey showed lots do anyway....).

real decent can am mx4 370 for a lousy $1500 - peanuts!  the bastards!!!

We in Australia do have plenty of unique and bread and butter VMX Solos and Sidecars, a lot are parked in garages and many more still waiting to by found and salvaged.
Why they remain out of sight is a huge mixture of reasons.
Like lots of people simply don't know what that "old piece of crap"is. Fair enough.
Some just as cruelly are wrapped in cotton wool and plastic film or in poxy static museums never to see to feel dirt under their tyres..
Age and health of owners.. we all know a decline in both is inevitable but we do love our toys from our younger days and stuff it !you got to keep your fond memories!,
Lack of time, finance or availability of parts to restore or repair machines,..... enough said!,
Machines hoarded for speculative purposes.... Hmmmmm....
Owners locking machines up in secret as they rightly scared of thieves and low life finding out about their prized bits and pieces.
Lack of meetings of all type in resonable traveling distances to display or race sell or swap your bikes and parts. Distance is a costly killer!
Closing and loss of tracks, riding areas....
Clubs and Controlling bodies >  in fighting > not listening to  us the paying members, lack of helpers to organise meetings or to PUSH FOR TOTAL ACCEPTANCE of our Sport/Pastime so we gets the public to come and view our treasures..
Lots and lots more reasons for sure! but lets don't think we are poor cousins to others .We have got to get what great treasure we have out for all to enjoy.

I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

we do have some treasures Tim  rightly so but speaking in the volume available at any given time the US vintage brothers have it all over us..exchange rate of near dollar for dollar so now is the time to buy kids! Might be nuts but my pick would be the Greeves and the Carabella, the Carabella may not be the greatest bike of all time but it's one that's always appealed to me and also one I've never seen in the flesh  ;) I'd love a little Fantic MXer too but very few hit these shores an there are non there advertised :-\

I was bidding on a bike one of those sellers "Kloppea" (the bloke selling the basket case Penton 100) was selling and he pulled the auction early. I'm a bit pissed off with him as it was the sister Cheney Yamaha to mine. I got a half hearted apology from him telling me that he "didn't know what it was before he listed it" . Someone got to him and told him what he had and buggered it for me. I guess that's the way eBay goes but I'm disapointed. I had a plan hatching to build matching 250 and 360 Cheneys. Oh well, at least the seller hasn't pulled the plug on my Kawa F31m Greenstreak engine.
