Forward mounted rear shocks ?

During the 1970s, the quest for improved rear end performance saw the introduction of forward mounted rear shocks. Many of the original developments were doomed because swingarms were not strong enough nor were some of the shocks.
Has any body undertaken his own modifications and improved the rear end by implementing forward mounted rear shocks ?

Thinking of doing this to a TS185. Looking at going from about 4" to under say 7".

More to worry about with handling than the placement of the shocks on a 185.

Skinny forks and a frame that flexes enough to make a Filipino hooker blush

 save yourself a lot of drama and just buy a decent set of shocks  and maybe reinforce the swingarm

or buy a PE175Z

a 185 piston port motor will go into a rm125m/s frame with only needing new front engine mounting plates made and one tab on the rear bottom mount needing relocating and give you plenty of suspension compared to the stock setup, cycle god on this site did it to a tm125 so have a chat to him about it

the ts 125 motors bolt straight in! I would suspect the185 is pretty close. immediate improvement on ride. the exhaust is an issue as the ts 125 up pipe will bolt straight on to the s frame but the b up pipe may need some work to get to the 185 port.

Yep. Done it on my 77 XL350. But I had a white brothers swingarm to use as well. Just remember that if you change the rear end ride height, you will need to sort out the front as well....

I did it to one of my coopers , i just copied the dimensions off a early Maico . it worked really really well made a huge difference to it especially when it got rough.

Too right. Sometimes having a little less travel makes a bike behave much better, as long as the geometry is right.
