Making "wise" investments...
« on: May 12, 2014, 07:45:12 pm »
I'm sure it's been done here before, but who gives a toss, I'm bored and wondering..if you were to pick a couple of mx or enduro bikes manufactured during or after 1995 for an "investment" in the distant future what would they be? And why? I think there's quite a few that are currently obtainable for small sums now that will be the sought after stuff in years to come. As shows in current day collectibility of a bike it seems not to matter if the bike was actually any "good" in it's era or not, just that some one has a connection with it or desire for something seems reason enough for a bike to be deemed "sought after", which is understandable...

Mine??
09 to current CRF150RB, why? Because its a true 1 off, never anything like it before and unlikely to be like it again considering the 1502t classes have now taken over. A four stroke, water cooled, high output 150cc factory built mx'er, can you show me another one??

VOR503, rare as rocking horse poo even now and they were years ahead of their time, over engineered yes, but very cool too.

What's yours??

Cheers, Brendan

I did think a while back when they said they were going stop making the last of the RM and CR two strokes mx bikes.
buy a couple of them and keep them like new and sell them later on in time , but didn't have the funds at the time ::)

YZF 400.  In a similar way to the DTI (but not quite).  First of the new generation 4/

Australian début at 1st round 1998 Thumpers, Barrabool. What a sight over 'Skyline' straight - 40 metre roost neck and neck with Kato 620's!
Ando on YZF 400, Kirkman, Caroll and Hogan on the 620 Katos.  Awesome!

Local dealer sold 13 the next day!

The road legal cr500e 2002 I think not many last of the 500's and road legal I have seen a few examples pretty expensive don't know if the af would have affect on them but the road legal is a big thing.

Plenty of road bikes too that would be a solid investment if you could resist riding them.

Not rare enough don't you think? Not as an investment.

problem is you've missed the boat by now. They are way expensive already.

Can I show you another one ? No, because they are a pile of dung, no one else wants to touch them with a 40 foot pole.
How are they high output?

1st Husaberg as Brad says. but good luck finding one. 1989 was the first production run and they were the first of the "new generation" four strokes way back then. It's no coincidence that the '98 YZ400F is virtually identical in bore/stroke & piston style to Husaberg 400.

I never said they were any good, just very different. And nearly 22hp isn't "high output" for a factory 150cc 4t? :-\
