« on: April 27, 2014, 11:50:21 am »
Can anyone tell me the pro's and con's of racing a 74 KX 450 and a 74 Pursang 360 in classic dirt track.
Thank you for any info.

The pro's fun, fun ,fun!

The cons, high speed getoffs, broken bones etc, flogging your pride and joy to death, and bloody mothers day.  ;)

Those are standard. What I'm looking for is a head to head race.

Never seen a Kawasaki Astro (bet someone puts one up now!) Extra 90cc has to help if it's usable. J

Both those bikes should do the job, its not uncommon to see a 250 giving the big bores a run for their money.
I suppose it really depends on the pilot.

My Guess is it would be easier to keep a Bully running for a season, rather  than the Kawa, given possible rareity of  spares supply,
But I think the Kawa would be a good thing on the track .

I guess it depends on how many meetings you think you would do

Interesting topic. Personally, I've been thinking about a Pre 78 dirt track racer, and was thinking of a Pursang 250. But a 360 would be cool too. So I am keen to see what the replies to this thread have to say.

Depends a hell of a lot on ability, I reckon.

Graeme, I have owned a pre78 250 Pursang. No doubt one of the better pre78 handlers, but in standard trim, your reflexes would have to be wired on the young and acute side to best control 250 power delivery surge for DT. Well IMO anyhow. I reckon the 360/370 Frontera guts, linked to a cleverly selected matched "progressive" throttle is much easier to control. And when you get the hang of that you could always tweak the guts more, without having to spend an overdose of fun tickets.

I did a fair bit of flat track or short circuit racing back in the late 70's and early 80's .. those bloody Kwakas are a fast thing .. but then again, so was just about any Bultaco .. particularly an Astro.

Just depends on what floats your boat

If you are thinking just dirt track get an Astro, set up for dirt track from the factory.

Cheers,

This pilot is 6'3" and 105kg.
