RM500e - Did the front fork bottoms come out Yellow ??
« on: April 07, 2014, 01:37:35 pm »
Hi all,

OK, i am a tad confused, it would seem that when i Google search info on the RM500E, i am getting mixed results...
Even Google images, show half the bikes with Yellow fork bottoms, and half with just the Silver/Grey type colour...

Can anyone shed some light on what exact colour the fork bottoms were from new ?

Thanks in advance :)

I've got a ADB test that shows them to be silver/alloy with yellow protectors, don't know if the protectors were standard or not.

Hi mate the 500E had silver un painted bottoms with yellow plastic fork guards standard.
The RM500D has yellow fork legs.

A lot of people run the RM500E tank stickers and seat covers on their "D" models hence why you could easily be confused when looking at bikes on the net.

I have a pdf of the genuine four page RM500 1983 model brochure . (Whatever ID that one is?) All the photos show yellow forkies.
I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Did the 84 forks still use that stupid front brake cable that came on the 83 yellow fork bikes?

Suzuki could have put a disc brake on the 500 in 1985 and produced the same bike for the next 15 years like Honda did with the CR and people would have bought them

Yes the 84 used the exposed cable
Yes the 85 had a disc brake but Suzuki had dumped the 83 and 84 models so only imported small numbers of 85s
besides testing had shown 250cc lap times to be similar at many circuits
