Our future
« on: March 11, 2014, 07:49:07 pm »
Yes it could end in 20 pages of wasted space or more enemies than we need within the forum pages.

Though i've noted with interest the urbane sprawl and non lovers of dirt bikes, that has over taken in the last 100 odd years engulfing natural terrain track and MX tracks.
With it a continuing threat every day to our piece of play area.

Its no use jumping up and down screaming like a banshee. We have got to attend these events and support our clubs/venues more.
As the saying goes if we don't use it we will loose it..
Barrabool and many more are on the list. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Sunshine-Coast-Motor-Cycle-Club-SCMCC/530127390343591
Believe it wont affect CD ,cause they don't use a start gate.
SAVE OUR TRACKS through the right channels before its too late.  8)
any other positive suggestions welcome  :)
cheers

seeing a bit of a return to nat terrain and private "invite only" tracks to suit various riders etc

after a season or two of any competing it always seems to hurt to pay the fees and do the stuff required....

the boomers have or are having their back to youth moment and probably burning out a bit...looking to do other stuff.

the reality of injuries is also hurting returned riders a bit as we don't bounce

Understood Husky 80-85 ,
though its all clubs Australia wide are being affected young and old.

As you've suggested moving from one natural terrain(private property) on a yearly or bi yearly rotation is the way to go for those with 100 odd km from a cbd.

When we were young and full of vim and vigour (read p*ss mostly) it was a great time and the club red tape was meaningless then but now with all the info overload we face on a day to day basis, I know a lot of people who would like to ride still but just cant be f*ke%d dealing with it anymore.

this is why vinduro to a degree has got popular, its easy, rock up, pay cash, doesn't matter if you have not prepped too much as no one cares as long as you have fun.

but already were seeing VEri pointing to more "red Plate rides" so you need to join a club get the bike eligible more red tape etc etc

so a few people are already saying "ill just ride the private property events

its a cycle all sports go through and the bulk of increased numbers from part time enthusiasts who drop off as quick as they arrive as other issues in their lives can quickly smother there enthusiasm to continue (a spiral fracture of the spine will do it everytime!).

im guilty of this, $$ family and time can quickly change my ability to attend an event no matter how hard I wish to go. id love to have that freedom to commit everytime.

until I get a job, im tight with funds and when I get work im too busy

I also note that the technicality of tracks for the younger mx boys with the big all or nothing jumps also "elites " the grass level sport very quickly. 1 face plant on a misstimed double and xbox suddenly looks real good.

this quickly turns younger kids away as the sense of failure brings on apathy and they drift off.

when I started, the jumps were not that big and you felt you always had a chance with picking lines and braking and all those basic racing techniques you learn. Chuck in a heap of monster jumps and the brave and foolish romp away everytime until they are the only ones left.

there is a place for this part of the sport but I think all club tracks should be simplified back to basics and specialised super cross tracks set up for those inclined.

this should foster more dad& kids involvement (like vinduro does) and give a lot more focus on the basics of riding.

got to stop drinking double shot coffee!!!! :o

No red tape involved

VMX

send pre entry

turn up and sign on

No pre entry , turn up pay a little extra waste a little of someones time , sign on

get bike checked

ride

go home

Vinduro

send pre entry

turn up and sign on

No pre entry , turn up pay , waste peoples time who want to be riding, sign on

get bike checked

ride

go home

Red plate for Vinduro (Veri) opens many more opportunities for the club and participants.
Its very easy to get a bike ready for red plate. Only needs to be done once and rechecked every year for renewal.
Veri also still has some events that donot require red plate rego etc.

This is happening Australia wide. Worse in some areas than others but the Screaming minority are making it impossible for the silent majority.

A couple of "Cases in point" that comes to mind.

Bob Jane & Calder Park. (I know it's not motorcycle) He built it in the middle of nowhere. Miles from anyone. Greedy councils rezoned industrial & others to residential then let people build right up to his doorstep. They whinged about the Possibility of noise of the up & coming Easternats & all but one councilor back the whingers. The ONE said they knew there was a race track there when they built but she lost.

Barrabool is another. 2 lawyers, one still working, one retired, conspired to shut it down & succeeded. MA pretended to fight it but now is sitting on a fortune. Will the money (Profit) they make from the sale go back into MX, or finding another block of land? I think not. Probably new cars for the staff.

We (Ballarat Rovers MCC) own Monza park & we have houses right up to us but thankfully they are all fair & reasonable. Our direct next door neighbour is a life member of the club so that's lucky but the writing is on the wall for us too. Recently a women shifted in near by (Over a km away) and the first thing she did was ring the council to see what restrictions were placed on us. Thankfully we are zoned industrial ATM & don't have to comply with residential noise curfews, but we do anyway, & have existing user rights going back decades.

Nothing lasts forever though. Funny, the ones who complain about kids riding through the streets, bush etc. are the same ones who want to shut us down.

One of the real pleasures in life in owning enough land to have a real VMX track , dont like it fire up the tractor and change it. And the only rules it has to conform to are mine all mine.

The most important thing we can do to help keep our tracks is to enforce the noise regulations!!!!!!!!!!!!

100% on this and NOISE, although the cynic in me still reckons people will whinge anyway.

Electric bikes are the future - the latest Stealth bikes (built in Melbourne) as an example - silent, very fast, 80km/h plus, no fuel just recharge after a 100km ride , low running cost, good suspension with upgrades available, awesome fun.  You can ride where bikes are not allowed and no one knows you were there.  It seems the advent of the booming 4 stroke MX bike which can be heard from 3 or 4  km away has hastened the demise of the tracks close to urban sprawl. The two smokers sound did not seem to carry so far.  Nothing could beat the sound of a gate full of two stroke 500's  blasting off the startline. Those were the days.

Yes,"those were there the days".I can remember when a person could ride almost anywhere and the police didn't care as it was off road and it was seen as doing the right thing.Damn times have changed. As for electric bikes I do believe they are the way of the future but for me a bike needs to make some kind of a noise. When I watch an electric bike on TV it just doesn't seem right.Too quiet, but each to their own.
