« on: March 06, 2014, 06:29:12 pm »
Can any of the experts out there tell me what the differences are between the 89 and 90 RM250's, struggling to find much info on the net.

Cheers

Not much, a smaller standard silencer, different fork guards, BNG.

Different forks, two peice clutch cover on 90 model, different water pump set up and crank. Also I think the frame might be different under the tank where the rad hose goes through the frame but I'm not %100 on that one.

Could be wrong, but I thought the 90 model went to square section frame tubes that run up from the swingarm pivot point.
The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

Thanks guys

What about seat and tanks - any interchangeability with earlier /later stuff or the 125?

How similar were the RMX's?

The 89 and 90 RMX was very close to the 89 RM250 and the 91 to 96 shared a lot of parts as well. The 89 RMX main differences to the 89 RM were bigger tank, big boat anchor silencer, lighting coil/ flywheel, longer swing arm, rear guard, side stand, head light and wr gearbox. Parts are easy to find as the US RMX never really got updated unlike our model after 96.

There is a way. Go to Alpha Sport (an American site) and dial up the Suzuki parts section. Dial the 89K 250 and 90L parts books and compare the the piccies and part numbers of bits they might have of changed. I know the 125s ran a lot of the same basic gear from 85F to 91M then then lots of changes after. Bit of a tedious way to check but very accurate.
