The 6D is an absolute gem, but probably a bit slow for action pics. I actually use one myself in the studio.
I use the 1DX for most jobs where it's likely to get dusty, rained on etc. It's built like a tank! The downside it that it weighs nearly as much.
I also use a 5D MkIII that I use for most wedding stuff.

The bargain at the moment is the 7D. It's getting a bit old and isn't full frame, but it's fast and produces excellent images. Depends what you want to use it for, I guess.
What do you use now?

They're heavy all right and I think mines even heavier than yours Tony :o. I've got a Canon EOS-1 D Mark II which despite its magnesium body is as heavy as all shit. It's pretty old and obsolete (8.2mp) compared to the 1DX but I'm not in the same league as Tony (or Uncle Billy Forsyth) so it's fine for my meagre work. I've also got a positively ancient Canon 350d which was my first digi SLR, bought back in 2004. I had a mate of Bill Forsyths unlock a few hidden features for me in about 2006, upping the megapixels from 6.2 to 8 and opening some other features I don't profess to understand. It's a great little lightweight and is seemingly bulletproof....I've put it through hell and I've had it serviced only once in its life but it's still going strong. If I was in the market for an upgrade I'd probably go for a 5D

sorry Tim - also didn't read well enough - CRAFT moment I think  ;D

Tony - if you promise you won't laugh...................................still using my 10 year old 300D?????  Time to upgrade and want to try full frame.  5D is nice but nearly another $1K on top of the 6 - but then the real cost is in the lenses!  Bloody hell batman.

And yes - mainly after the speed for VMX - but thought the 6 was fast enough - you don't think so?

Depends what you want to do with it, but if you're coming from the 300D, I think you'll be happy with the 6D.
The 6D just isn't as quick as the 7D, 5D or 1D, but will certainly perform waaaaaay better than you're current camera.
btw when I say 'speed' I don't mean how many frames per second it can shoot, I'm talking about how fast it focuses and then processes the images.
My 1D will shoot at up to 14 frames per second, but even for motorsport, the highest I ever shoot at is 8 and even that's pretty rare.
If there's an opportunity, see if you can get your hands on one before laying down the cash.
And above all, shows us some pics when you get it!  ;D
