Went to a Hot Rod club's swap meet today (not much bike stuff ) but I did find these Rat Rods I have no idea that there was a trend to building these things , most of the Rods were the 3 tons of chrome style or wild paint jobs but a group of Rat Rodders had driven up from Hobart with 5 of these beasts . Im sold on the idea . Iain

The whole rat rod thing started probably 15ish yrs ago mainly in socal. You should see some of the creations they drive over there. No way would you get away with it here.

I like the genuine ratrods - "using whatever we can find out the back of the shed" mentality.
I also like the "get it out of the barn/paddock and start using it" idea.

But so many of them are overdone - charactitures of a real ratrods, where people obviously spend extra effort to make their cars look like they've had less effort put into them...

The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

This is a long way from being a rat rod but here's my mates 32 Ford coupe, built from a US import rat rod before they were called that in 1979. This old girl still drives like a new car and has given 35 years of trouble free motoring. It's owner is currently looking at getting into VMX with something hot roddish. The old ford is currently featured on the Snap-On 2014 calendar.

I don't know if you would call this a rat rod but it would be a cool van to tow the bikes.  I sits on a Mitsubishi L300 chassis and is fitted with a Holden 308 V8 and auto box.

Everyday I find one more name to add to the list of people who piss me off.
