I've had over twenty Maicos over the years but I lost a lot of photos when Village Photos crashed a year or so ago. Here's a few from now and then........the purple wheel '73 250 and AW400 were both destroyed in separate fires after I sold them. A tragedy of coincidence.

No that was a different bike John. Some of the parts might have swapped between the two but the one you rode was the fluro orange one. The purple one replaced it.

had this since 1986, $395 was on consignment at Drummonds M/C Kempsey, it is still on the original piston , raced a few classic nats on it in the 90's, commuted to work on it (7kms quiet dirt road),still has the 9 feet wide old bars on her, garage queen atm .      g.

Firko,
Who made the pipe on the Purple wheel Maico? Looks like it would have worked well.

Peter Reynolds made it Radar and yes it did, and still does work well. It's on my 350 squarie these days and even though it was made for the 250 it works just as well on the bigger engine.....even though it probably shouldn't :o. You'd know more about that than me ;).

My Maico trials bike based on a 1973 MC250 motocrosser. A lot of work has gone into this bit of history.
