Ts 250 1969 under slung or over
« on: January 06, 2014, 02:45:45 pm »
Need some input to what is legal ( pipe wise)  for this bike to be ridden in pre 70 class.
rule 18.5.2.6 ... exhaust may be modified but must follow the original lines and be fitted with an effective muffler.

Ts  1969 250 came out with up pipes std ...... can I run a down pipe "TM  style"  as I have seen in some pics posted of late.

Either Stu. The TS kit pipe is a downer, the stocker is an upper so both work. Rule 18.5.2.6 is seldom, if ever enforced anyway. If it was half the bikes with aftermarket pipes would be chucked out. Watto in WA has had much to say on this subject in the past ;D.

Hey Firko, that '69 TS250 project bike I bought at the last CD (and emailed you about a bit after) is gonna be raced this year!  Dirt track even!!  Taken this long as spent most of the year putting in a pool/deck combo in the backyard to keep the wife happy (occupied).  New top end, respoked wheels, some TLC (not extending to paint tho - still looks like dragged from a dumpster bin...), but goes quite well (with '73 TM250 top end).  So, off to the ACTMCC pre 78 250 class with it!  Whatcha doing with yours oldfart?

Firko, I this correct 69 models came with an optional down pipe  ::) as I'm not aware they did ??? if they did it's a no brainer then.   I will need to  figure out a way of how the kicker will clear  pipe @ 3/4 stroke . Maybe a reverse knuckle ( kx 250 type ) which will offset it rearwards allowing for a bent arm.
Bazza  RM alloy swing arm eh ....think you might be taking the piss ;)
you been  feeding those ducks as I like them with plenty of meat in around May  ;D

Son .... I'm not too sure if  RH69 pipes will fit Ts 69 Frames without a few frame mods.
Just made up a template and frame brackets so brake pedal is out of the way ...... trial fit tomorrow.

Stew run the pipe on the left hand side, that's where the kit pipes ran and it was to clear the footbrake pedal and kickstart I believe.

yeah all the early Zooks with up pipes had that unfortunate lever with the pivot at the top.
A TM one is a better bet.

It may have been the brake pedal the LHS pipe was meant to clear and maybe something to so with the bolt on footpegs?

I've got a TS kit pipe but I'm not sure if it fits the '69TS. I do know it doesn't fit a 76TS or TM as I've tried it on my TM250 with both engines in the frame. It does indeed travel on the opposite (left) side. Here's a shot of it. (RH74 pipe in background)

Unfortunately Piney, the RH pipe isn't for sale. It was donated to me by Dave Tanner many years ago for the TM/TS low buck VMX Mag project bike so it wouldn't be fair of me to sell it without Dave giving the deal the OK. I'll run it past Dave but even if it's a YES answer, there are about three in front of you...all by PM, sorry mate.
