Nickel plating in NSW

I think my new GMC is worthy of Nickel plating,
Any suggestions?

Elite Plating, Woodpark Rd Smithfield. Call Chris on 0431200361. They also do the yellow chromate, for all your little brackets and metal blackening for kickstart levers. Between AdamN and I we probably put about a dozen bikes worth of nuts and bolts through in the last few years with no probs.

There are 2 types of nickel plating…

What you might consider normal plating which is by use of electrodes/ annodes and current. This is usually the cheaper option but it doesn’t get deep into the nooks and crannys like inbetween headstem gussets that well.
It can also cause hydrogen embrittlement making the material go brittle.
You can counter this by having the frame heat treated after plating but it needs to be done within about 12 hours or less of being plated
This naturally adds to the cost

Electroless nickel, this is less common. The nickel is in a bath that is heated and the nickel attaches itself when all is hot (something like that anyway)
It has the advantage of getting into all the cavities and it doesn’t cause hydrogen embrittlement due to there being no anodes or electrical current


Either way you go the polishing will probably be the biggest expense.

Also I would recommend a dry run of fitting all parts in case you decide you want an extra bracket added or have one moved etc.
Mods are easily done now but will ruin a frame that is already plated.
